About DM Kayden
I’ve been DMing for 20 years now. I’m good at weaving in character backstories and making even published adventures feel personal. I try to promote comfort at the table but keep it professional at the same time. I allow players to play how they want and encourage them to meander through the plot, seek out the side quests and have some player to player RP moments. I stay engaged with the players throughout the campaign asking what they liked or what they would like to see next and try to make sure everyone gets the experience they signed up for. I’ve been doing this long enough to know what I’m doing. At the same time I never let that get in the way of trying to improve or allow it to give me a know-it-all-mentality.

I got started GMing...
Because I had to. I’ve had a few DMs but most of them just weren’t giving the experience I wanted out of the game so I decided to do the job myself. I’ve had the pleasure of playing some great games with some great DMs recently, but at the time I just couldn’t find the game I was looking for.
My favorite books are
- The Legend of Drizzt books. - The Wheel of Time series. - all things Brandon Sanderson. - Shogun - 1984 - Servant of the Bones.
When I'm not running games I'm...
World building, making music, drawing, and basically anything that allows me to be creative.
How DM Kayden runs games
I love roleplay and I’m pretty good with voices. I’m very descriptive when narrating and even though I do describe combat I like to encourage players to describe what their characters do. I am very big on player agency and creativity. I like when players reflavor things, write compelling backstories or find ways to showcase who their character is. I’m all about the story and the characters.

I deal with rules issues by...
RAW, but I also do what feels right. I don’t try to cheat the characters. I try to make sure that I rule fairly and logically. I also focus on resolving rules issues quickly so I’ll make a call and if it turns out it was a bad call I’ll give some sort of benefit to the character in-game later on.
I prep by
Overthinking and drinking too much coffee.
My games focus on...
The characters and the story. I like letting players explore their personal arc and make meaningful choices in the main arc.
DM Kayden's ideal table
Every table is different, but I like to promote comfort and camaraderie at my tables. I definitely keep the conversation going between sessions and trust me when I say this has improved my games so much. D&D is a game that gets better the more you relax and let go of self consciousness and the less strange the strangers are around the table the easier this is to do. So I like to make things feel chill. It’s worked well for me.

I am for a vibe that's...
Comfortable. I’m here to provide an experience, yes, but I also want it to feel chill. There’s nothing like a dnd game between people who have gotten comfortable with each other. I’m always in the chat between games to help keep that social atmosphere going for that reason.
I love it when a player
Gets into character. Even though I like a balance of roleplay, I love when a player really gets into the character they’ve created. I’ll vibe off that all day.
My table is not the place for...
Hogging the spotlight, acting out antisocial behavior (evil for evil’s sake), not respecting other players or just ruining the atmosphere in general.
