About Geri

I've been playing table top RPGs since 2005! I primarily played in post by play games, but in 2007 I managed to find a 3.5 D&D group. I started officially GMing in 2018 with a Changeling the Lost game. When the pandemic started I started DMing for the same group with 5.0 and they absolutely loved it. About a year and a half ago I started teaching D&D for the local After School Arts Program! Since Roleplaying teaches children creative problem solving skills, it's been a popular class that parents have been interested in. I have GMed Thirsty Sword Lesbians, Monster of the Week, an experimental RPG currently being play tested, Dungeons and Dragons and Triangle Agency. I've also played Vaesen, Various Post by Play Rule systems, D&D, and Call of Cthulhu. I am also a professional artist and work at a Non-Profit Art Center in the USA.

I became a GM because

I absolutely love collaborative storytelling. Creating a world with other people is one of the most satisfying things I've ever experienced.

I got started GMing...

Right before the pandemic! My friends wanted to play a Changeling the Lost game and I wanted to use some Changeling characters I never got to play as NPCs. It turned into a discord group and eventually led to a DnD game during the pandemic.

When I'm not running games I'm...

writing and creating art! I'm a professional artist and freelancer. When I'm not doing administrative work I'm drawing or writing.

How Geri runs games

I'm a roleplay heavy GM, but I try to have at least one combat encounter every other session for variety. I typically hold 2 to 3 hour sessions. Improv is a big factor in my GMing style. I enjoy player agency so they can shape the world how they see fit. While I stick to an over arching plot, the details change with the players actions. No two adventures are the same. Sadly I cannot do voices, but I do draw all the character art and other assets.

I prep by

Writing an extensive outline. While some of my games do have prescripted events I try to make an outline that includes various branching paths so the players have options.

Rules are...

Flexible. Systems exist as a guideline, and sometimes can be bent if someone is creative enough to think of an alternate solution.

Geri's ideal table

I try to keep things welcoming and easy on beginners. While I do expect some level of commitment, I am cool with people not being heavily into lore. (I also make mistakes, and am okay with people calling me out on it.) I am also a big fan of Rule of Cool, so some rules get pushed to the side for that satisfactory moment of Hell Yes. I do look for feedback from players! Constructive criticism helps me grow!

Featured Prompts

I am for a vibe that's...

dark with a good deal of humor mixed in. The world may be ending but I sure as heck have to make fun of it.

I think min/maxing...

Amusing. I love it when people break the game, and usually end up chuckling when an encounter gets decimated by a min/maxer. I also love it when the same person gets knocked out by an ooze.
