About Jon
Hello, my name is Jon, and I've been an avid TTRPG player for about a decade now. I've played in a variety of systems, from DnD to Cyberpunk: Red to Call of Cthulu to Dread. In addition to my decade of experience as a player, I've also had about five years experience as a GM, predominantly in Cyberpunk Red and DnD. I am always looking for new systems to run and experience, and have recently been looking to run games in Draw Steel, Daggerheart, and Mothership!

I became a GM because
I was a player for a while, and I wanted to be able to return the favor to my GM. As the GM, it also gave me an opportunity to try out more systems outside of Dungeons and Dragons.
My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be
1) Dungeons and Dragons 2) Cyberpunk Red 3) Draw Steel (Haven't had a chance to play this one yet, but I know it's exactly my kind of game!)
My favorite books are
The Mistborn Series (I haven't finished Era 2 yet, but really enjoyed Era 1) Gideon the Ninth Mort (From the Discworld series) The Lord Of The Rings Legends & Lattes
How Jon runs games
As a GM, I prefer a close to even split of RP and combat. I enjoy all levels of RP, from those that help push the plot along, to the small, even seemingly inconsequential moments that help define who a character is. For combat, I try to provide fair but meaty challenges for the player characters to overcome. Unless discussed during session zero, in heroic games I don't typically try to run particularly lethal combats. However, in something like Cyberpunk or Mothership, I find that the possibility of character death adds to the theme of system.

I deal with rules issues by...
assessing what is a reasonable interpretation in the moment. Unless I can find the exact rule in the book quickly, I prefer to make a judgement in the moment, and correct for next time. Where possible, I will err in favor of the player. It is a game after all, and should be fun.
Rules are...
important, they help define the system and exactly how the game is played. However, they shouldn't get in the way of fun and story telling either.
When it comes to voices
I try my best, but my voices tend to change over time unintentionally. I find being consistent with character behavior is far more important to making an interesting NPC (or PC) than having an interesting voice is.

I love it when a player
makes the narratively optimal choice, rather than the mechanically optimal one
I think min/maxing...
has its place. While a roleplay heavy game should likely avoid it, a game designed around a lot of combat can benefit from it
