About Corey (Ghos)
Salutations, Exile. My name is Corey, sometimes Ghos in my many online games. Thank you for stopping by! I'm a long time role-player of at least a decade, with a high percentage being based in tabletop gaming. My first experiences were text-based roleplaying, through various mediums like video games and online forums. The pandemic then opened the box to tabletop gaming for me after having it as a side interest for many years, and I haven't been able to stop since! I started out playing Dungeons & Dragons as many have, but my love for the hobby has only deepened. I've since branched out into the dangerous waters of OSR gaming, the narrative-first Powered by the Apocalypse games, and many things in between.

I became a GM because
I just love the hobby. I've always loved teaching new things, and storytelling is one of the longest running human traditions. It's the best of two of my favorite things, AND I get to play a cool game? Sign me up.
My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be
GURPS, Ars Magica, and 2D6 Dungeon
When I'm not running games I'm...
Sometimes gaming, sometimes writing, sometimes writing about games.
How Corey (Ghos) runs games
My style will always be "roleplay-first". I love storytelling and crafting a narrative alongside my players. I keep things fair as much as I can, and I don't find an issue in bending certain rules to make a narrative flow appropriately. Many refer to it as a "rule-of-cool" style, but I just prefer calling it collaboration. This is our story. Horror and horror-adjacent themes are my specialty. I enjoy building tension and letting it sit in the air. I love upping the stakes and giving a different fail state aside from "health hit zero". Improv from both myself and my players is always welcome, and the experience of working in whatever wild idea is thrown at me is deeply enjoyable. My tables are inclusive, collaborative, and respectful. Clear communication and player comfort are very important to me, and I'll always be working to ensure we're all on the same page.

I once ran a session...
While defending against a siege at an abandoned castle deep in the jungle, two players collaborated together (Artificer and Forge Cleric) in order to fire Heat Metal'd cannonballs straight into a charging T-Rex.
My favorite trope is...
The villain that puts their differences with the heroes aside, in order to stand together against an even worse threat.
When it comes to voices
They're welcome, but never pressured. You can play a wonderfully compelling character while just speaking in your regular everyday voice.
Corey (Ghos)'s ideal table
I try to foster an environment where everyone can succeed, and everyone helps each other along the way. PCs asking engaging questions to other PCs about their stories, active roleplay scenes (even during combat), and just generally building each other up along the way. My ideal table is "fail forward" players with collaborative mindsets. I love building up successful moments for my players, but sometimes the best success comes from players working together to make the best of a bad situation. As a horror-focused GM as well, my ideal table has everyone involved and immersed in the content. There will always be places for fun shenanigans (and lots of them, honestly), but it's important to know when to reign it in. No one wants the climax of their story to be derailed by a mistimed joke.

I love it when a player
is actively engaged, and spots the small inconsistencies in a mystery. One of my favorite things at the table will always be the "lightbulb" going off over a player's head.
I think min/maxing...
has a time and a place, but you HAVE to remember the "min". Everyone likes to play strong characters, but we remember the flaws that they overcome more than most of their victories. Everyone knows that Superman is defeated by Kryptonite.
My table is not the place for...
Needless arguing, aiming to "win", or aiming for the spotlight at all points. We're here to tell a story, that includes yours as well as the others at the table.
