About Ryan
Hey. Before I tell you who I am, take a deep breath. Just relax. It feels like everything you love has become homework, right? Half the people you know keep telling you to turn your hobbies, your passions, the things that keep you sane, into side hustles- whether or not you’re really ready to start your own business. The other half seem to obsess over their interests, arguing about minor plot points or design decisions for no reason (I’m unfortunately guilty of that sometimes) or gatekeeping their hobby as if more people won’t help their beloved IP spread and survive. What I’m providing here? Not like that. You want to be min-maxy and build the ultimate 5e 2Pally/Hexblade1/Whisper6? Sure! Want just a beer and pretzels game to have a good time and meet friends at? Awesome! Want to get engrossed in a conspiracy and roleplay every bit of political intrigue? I got you. The catch? We ALL agree on the nature of the game- not one of us, not three of us, not even just me, but EVERYONE. That’s how we have a great time together. I’ve spent a lot of GMing time teaching beginners how to play systems like D&D 5e, Pathfinder 2e, and even Ten Candles; but I’ve also spent time with experts (both as player and GM) who cut their teeth playing ttrpgs practically before I was born. So don’t sweat the heavy stuff. Take off your coat, leave your troubles at the door, and let’s have some fun. There’s got to be some place for us filthy casuals to play, right?

My favorite shows/movies are
The Menu, 12 Angry Men, South Park: BIgger, Longer, Uncut, and To Kill a Mocking bird are my top four movies (though the Backrooms may take #4 from The Menu if it holds up as well on a second viewing). For shows/anime: Ted Lasso, FMA, and Futurama
My favorite system of all Time is
Ten Candles by Calvary Games. It's a such a simple, rich system for exploring horror games. As the candles fade, your control as the GM grows stronger and the stakes quickly escalate, making every roll more and more of gamble with fate- and the house always wins.
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
Bizarre, Chaotic, and Wholesome.
How Ryan runs games
Hey there! I want to make learning things as easy and enjoyable as possible for you. My goal is for you to have a good time and get into the swing of things quickly. I absolutely love spinning lore, whether it's from an official adventure or my own imaginative creation. Creating a rich and immersive story is something I truly enjoy. When it comes to running the game, I don't limit myself to just following notes. I like to bring an element of improvisation into the mix. Sometimes the best moments happen when we just go with the flow and see what sticks! One of my favorite aspects of playing tabletop RPGs is the roleplaying. I genuinely love when players get into character and immerse themselves in the game world. Feel free to spend time interacting with quirky NPCs or getting to know your party members better. After all, this is your world, so let loose and have fun! Combat is another area where I like to have a blast. I particularly enjoy tactical encounters, especially in 5e. Don't worry, I won't throw a dragon at you if you're still new to the game. But as you gain more experience, the challenges will ramp up (unless you prefer a different approach, I'm flexible). I have a knack for funny voices and accents. Anything from a gruff dwarf to a melodramatic bard, I'll bring life to the characters in our game. Sometimes it fits perfectly, and other times it's just downright hilarious! Planning is also a strength of mine. I'll take your ideas and work on crafting a campaign that ideally spans multiple sessions. No need to worry though, I won't set everything in stone. Flexibility is key, and together we can shape the direction of our adventure. Lastly, I firmly believe in the rule of cool. If a particular action or idea is super cool or fits your character perfectly, I'm all for it. Sometimes we can bend the rules a bit to add that extra touch of awesome to our game. So, are you ready to embark on an epic adventure? Let's dive in and have some fun!
