About DMTurk

Hi, I’m Turk! I got started in "rollplaying" games in 1995 playing Final Fantasy on Nintendo. Around 1998, I started playing Magic the Gathering and have been into Table Top gaming since about 2013 (yes, Wil Wheaton and TableTop got me into that hobby). I have some experience playing D&D and have entry level experience being a DM. I've played D&D on and off over the years dabbling in being the DM. Ultimately, being the DM for friends and family. I moved to this medium to find more players to play more often.

I became a GM because

It gave me an outlet to play games with my friends and family. I always enjoyed the world of D&D (MTG being my gateway into D&D). Not until recently have I dove into the world of D&D.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Funny (I think) - I like to laugh. It definitely resonates in my gaming style. Eclectic - I like to dabble in a lot of different ideas and hobbies. Analytical - I get stuck in this a lot (analysis paralysis).

When I'm not running games I'm...

When I'm not running games, I'm generally looking for some type of adventure. I a large background with hobbies from: Adventure Racing, auto-sport racing, mineral hunting, scuba diving, animal husbandry, gardening, and the list goes on.... I keep busy, always looking for new and interesting things.

How DMTurk runs games

Story before rules. I’m a Rule of Cool type person, I’d rather allow a moment that slightly bends the rules and provide an awesome moment in the game rather than allow the rules to prevent it from happening. At the end of the day, we are all having a moment from life to enjoy our free time together. My games generally involve the following: - Music ambiance - Maps with tokens - Character voices (albeit poorly...haha) - Good fun!

I prep by

using my background as an engineer. I'm very detail and notes oriented. I use word docs and excel sheets to manage my game along with VTT and published online documents.

Rules are...

a guideline. I like Rule of Cool and am in this for the fun and story telling.

When it comes to voices

I do my best...haha. Im not a voice actor by any means, but I try my best to allow the players to have an immersive experience.

DMTurk's ideal table

My table is a welcoming space for all types of players, but we thrive on story-driven, collaborative campaigns. We play Dungeons & Dragons, and while we enjoy combat, we're more interested in character arcs, political intrigue, and building a world together. Our sessions are generally relaxed and focused on fun, not strict rule adherence—we follow the "Rule of Cool" whenever it makes sense. I encourage players to roleplay their characters, make bold choices, and engage with the other players and the world. We're a diverse group, and we value respect, inclusivity, and communication. If you're a player who loves to immerse themselves in a rich narrative, work as part of a team, and laugh a lot, you'll fit right in. We’re less of a "min-maxing" group and more of a "let's see what happens if we set fire to this tavern" kind of group. Ultimately, my table is for anyone who wants to tell an epic story with friends.

I am for a vibe that's...

laid back, fun, and immersive.

I love it when a player

does something crazy off the cuff to make a great narrative for the story.

I think it's a red flag when players...

is not cool and disrespectful to the table and DM.
