About Joost van Wijngaarden
I am a student of biology in the netherlands. I love how interconnected the world is and how weird it is. I mainly play DnD and Daggerheart, I love both because of the creativity and the storytelling that you do together. Even as a GM you never know what the players will do and where the story will go. My motto for GMing is "Fun number one" this means that fun is always at the foremost of my mind while playing. I've been playing for around 11 years (most of which as a GM) and its always important for fun and comfort to be at the forefront for games. I think this is an important motto as it has allowed me to keep approximately the same party for around 5 years and still on going. My style of play varies immensely but is always RP heavy. There is an emphasis on character arcs and progressing characters personality and making them deal with personalized challenges. Throughout my years as a GM I've ran mostly intrigue campaigns with a slight thriller aspect to it. However I have been playing a bit more light hearted recently with campaigns like strixhaven.

Photographing some local ducks, writing new DnD mechanics, teaching at the local museum or (only sometimes) doing some coursework.
How Joost van Wijngaarden runs games
My GMing style is a mix between heavy character centric RP with intrigue and a slight tinge of thriller/horror upon request. I am pretty tactical in combat when I need to be, but that depends on the group.

I prep by
making a bullet list of stuff that would be cool and looking at Cze Peku maps for inspiration.
My favorite trope is...
cult rituals
Rules are...
guidelines, fun is important.
Joost van Wijngaarden's ideal table
Fun but serious. I love a bunch of ADHD gremlins trying out new things and trying to navigate the chaos of a DnD game, but I also love it when these gremlins all become silent at the right moment when something important is happening. Players who fit best are active but respectful of the others or are a bit more shy but willing to be pulled into the story.
Featured Prompts
I love it when a player
attempts to use a spell in a weird way (using prestidigitation to make haggis slime)
I think metagaming...
adds a seperate dimension however strongly recommend not going against your character's character
My table is not the place for...
any sort of racism or weird fetishes. I've had a lot of porn PMed to me on discord as "character art" and that stuff gets you immediately thrown out.
