About Cody Davis

I am a GM who is experienced in multiple different game systems that enjoys focusing on roleplay and rewarding creative thinking in my games. I am fascinated with the human experience and adore telling stories from the heart. I tend to make the majority of my games focused on tight, character-focused roleplay where the actions of player characters can fully change the world around them, with combat interspersed between to give players a different kind of challenge. My combats are generally complex, offering players multiple avenues to success whether that be through fighting, an environmental puzzle, or just talking to your supposed enemy. I tend to be quite expressive in my narration so that my players are able to have a vivid picture of the action happening in their mind. I enjoy running horror-focused games where I can build tension and suspense and have players on the edge of their seat. I hope to see you in a game of mine soon! Outside of my table, I am an avid real life adventurer constantly traveling to hike and see new things! I adore consuming stories of ANY nature and am just happy to be present with people sharing community.

I became a GM because

I love stories. I find there is a beauty to words and a magic that occurs when we can speak and transfer feelings, sensations, memories. I know life tends to get us all down as there is always so much on the collective plate so I found my own way to contribute which was escape.

My favorite system of all Time is

It truly depends on which story is inspiring me most at the moment but if pressed I would most likely say Gamma World for what it meant to me starting out along with Alien or Marvel now.

When I'm not running games I'm...

tackling real life adventures! Hiking national parks, climbing mountains, jumping out of planes, anything to be outside and get the blood pumping! Also a sucker for reading, writing, dancing, and just all around experiencing everything life has to offer

How Cody Davis runs games

I spend my free time crafting detailed, grounded human stories where characters are thrust into fantastic situations. I love challenging my players to think outside the box and really dial into what makes their character who they are. I spend my prep time adjusting my story to whatever decisions my players make, including how those choices affect the world around them and how they are perceived by it. Before we start our game, I like checking in with my players. Not only to recap what they did last session, but to get the player in the mindset of how their character is feeling. I take copious notes during gameplay to immerse players in the world. Does a decision you make affect everything that’s to come? Is your character feeling good about their choices? Do they regret throwing a plane at the villain and causing countless casualties? “That’s a Mousekatool that’ll help us later.” I find it far more fun to improvise with my players than to railroad them into a predetermined outcome. It helps the world feel alive and ever-changing. I love putting my players in situations where they have to think creatively. I will always respect a player’s idea for solving a problem, so long as they can explain it and sell it to me. I believe we are creating a living, breathing story together. It’s so much more fun when we collaborate and build something unique for the group. My maps are filled with fun little things to do and people to meet. I take a bottom-up approach from a goons pov.
