About Dungeon Crawlin' Collin
Hi there, I'm glad you're here! I'm a professional television producer based out of Portland, Oregon and a rabid enjoyer of and advocate for TTRPGs. I firmly believe that TTRPGs are the best way to have fun with friends, meet new people, and grow your imagination and I'm all about showing that magic to as many people as possible! I fell in love with D&D about five years ago when I first listened to The Adventure Zone on a cross-country road trip and was instantly hooked. I remember getting home and buying dice and the Player's Handbook, even though I didn't have anyone to play with. I would just sit and build character after character and fidget with my dice. After some start and stop play with random groups I was able to find by going to local board game shops and mead halls, I decided the only way to play regularly with a good group of people was to learn how to DM myself and coerce all my friends to play with me (this is of course before I found this really cool service!) I've been GMing since and I really love it, but I have only so many friends to run games for. So I've come to Start Playing to expand the number of games I'm able to run. I welcome players from all different experience levels, backgrounds, and identities because inclusiveness is key to communal gaming! If you're a kind person who is interested in TTRPGs, I want you in my game! Continue to my GM style section to see if my gaming style is the right fit for you!

I became a GM because
I became a GM because l am obsessed with it as a multimedia storytelling device and as a way to be intentional, present, and creative with friends.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Thinking about the games I'm running. But also filming things, playing with my pets, watering my plants, hanging out in nature and photographing wildlife.
How Dungeon Crawlin' Collin runs games
Here are some things I value in my TTRPG experience so you can get a sense of whether I might be the GM for you. 1.) Roleplay - TTRPG without roleplay is just a board game. I love board games... but I'm not here to run board games, I'm here to run TTRPG. This doesn't mean that you have to be good at roleplaying by any means, but I will always encourage you to try to role-play your character. 2.) Homebrew - Even if I'm running a module want to be able to get under the hood and tinker and make things that are more unique to me, my tastes, and my players. 3.) Collaborative World Building - I want you, my player, to have hand in building the world and the story with me. That can be as simple as writing a couple of paragraphs of backstory for your character. Or you can create an intricate ten-page back story with a bespoke home town that we go visit for a session. 4.) Narrative - Stories are what make the game meaningful. I want our games to feel like a bingeable series that you obsess over between episodes. I want my games to be an immersive, imaginative, inclusive and most of all fun experience for everyone who participates. As such, having a session zero, utilizing safety tools (lines and veils, XNO Cards, and Open Door are my go-tos) and aftercare are all integral to the way I run games. Dungeon Crawlin' Collin's ideal table
I like my tables to be cool as F.R.I.C.K! (Funny, relaxed, inclusive, creative, kind). I swear I don't actually talk like that in real life, I'm just awful at these prompt and response get to know me things. I like well-balanced open-world play. I love it when my players are excited about the world we're creating together and are willing to contribute. Expect me to craft plot lines and world elements around any backstory you give me. I especially love it when new players join and the whole table is willing to encourage and help them. I'm definitely more of a Rule of Cool GM and would argue that the Rule of Cool is actually written into the foundational rules of D&D and Daggerheart. Soooo Rule of Cool IS the Rules as Written... fight me. I use a mix of battle maps and theater of the mind. I use music and sound effects. I do voices. I homebrew almost always. If you are a huge stickler for the rules. If you want super granular tracking of all of your supplies down to what rations you bring. If you want sessions that are just a cycle of fights, looting and trips to the shop to sell what you loot. If you think that TTRPGs are a competitive affair that can be won if you just metagame hard enough.... you might not love my style. BUT if you want to tell a really fun, creative story together with a set of rules that introduces elements of chance and gives us structure and/or an anchor; I think my table might be just right for you.

I love it when a player

My table is not the place for...
very granular or technical players, unless you are looking to be converted from your troublesome ways.
