About James

My name is James, however for cosplay and DM-ing I go by JC. I am an active cosplayer who has been cosplaying for the last 3 1/2 years, and has even guested at conventions. I have been writing and DM-ing D&D campaigns for the past year, and am currently in the progress of writing an expansion. Outside of DM-ing and Cosplay, I love to cook and practice guitar whenever I'm able

I became a GM because

I wanted to take people on adventures that could be fun, engaging, and unique.

My favorite shows/movies are

Stranger Things, Dracula Untold, Ben 10, Friends, and anything to do with Friday the 13th.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Usually in the process of working on cosplays

How James runs games

I have a pretty relaxed style when it comes to being a DM, I enjoy making a fun story and environment for my players, but do include challenge. While I do run story-driven narrative first and dungeon crawling second, I ensure every session has a decent balance of both. Every session is going to have at least one combat encounter, and at least one puzzle, riddle, or investigation encounter. Being adventure and story focused I do expect at least some roleplay, I don't penalize anyone for not having a "character voice" and do, though rare, at times give out inspirations if the roleplay is good enough

My games focus on...

Fun, Adventure, Combat, and Roleplay, I try to ensure every game has a little something for everyone.

Rules are...

Be respectful of everyone Rule of cool will be allowed in certain scenarios (the cooler it is, the more likely I will allow it or let a roll be made with advantage). Fade to Black will be the extent of romantic relations. If romantic relations happen in the party, it is exclusively consensual

When it comes to voices

I will sometimes do voices, and sometimes I won't, it is simply a matter of how in-depth and how enriched the character will be to the story, plus sometimes I forget who has what voice.

James's ideal table

I want my table to have fun engaging with the story and with each other, the more invested and engrained they get into the story, the more entertaining the campaign as a whole can become. I really appreciate my players having well-rounded knowledge of combat and turn economy, and an understanding of in-character/out-of-character dialogue and role play.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Dragons or Horror elements, I try to implement as much as I can, where I can, when I can, so long as it makes sense and won't overpower the party or ruin the story.

I love it when a player

Gets passionate and excited about where the story could take their character, or even more, where their character could help to take the story.

My table is not the place for...

Insults, Arguments, or trying to force another player or player's character to do something.
