About Sam
I have been running TTRPGs for friends and family for roughly 10 years. I first started in middle school with an after school club, then joined a long-running campaign in high school. After meeting folks at a board game club in Southern California, I have had the opportunity to participate in weekly games and one shots in a wide variety of systems, from D&D 5E to Ten Candles.

I became a GM because
I enjoy creating and telling stories with my players. The same adventure can be completely different each time, depending on who's playing it!
My favorite books are
Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett - An incredibly fun and silly fantasy/mystery about dragons in a massive city. Goodbye, Eri by Tatsuki Fujimoto - A manga about love, loss, and how perspective can influence a story. Ciaphas Cain by Sandy Mitchell - A fun but serious romp through Warhammer 40k
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
Flexible - I'm always looking to include player's ideas and suggestions, even when they derail my own plans Mischievous - Consequences are important, but they can be fun and give an opportunity to develop the story Concise - I always try to provide good descriptions without dragging on
How Sam runs games
I do my best to touch on all aspects of a system, but tend towards roleplay heavy games, and enjoy mystery, intrigue and horror. Most games I've run rely heavily on theater of the mind, but I am happy to use more maps and visual aids as requested. It's important to me as a GM to be flexible, and I am usually open to homebrew as long as it is discussed in advance.

I prep by
Reviewing the important story beats and characters. I want to strike a balance between the story I prepared and being flexible to player input
Rules are...
important, as long as they are fun, and keep the game moving. I have no issues changing or ignoring certain rules, as long as my players are in agreement. Above all, they shouldn't get in the way of player creativity.
When it comes to voices
I love to do character voices. They can get mixed up from time to time, but I think they can add a lot to a character or a scene.
Sam's ideal table
While I always have a plan for where I want a session to go, I love it when a creative player causes me to adapt on the fly. I love role playing, but I find combat can drag on in some systems. I do my best to streamline it and keep the game moving. While I encourage less serious antics, I am no stranger to covering mature topics with the respect they deserve, and player safety is my number one priority.

I am for a vibe that's...
Creative and fun, but serious when it needs to be. Silly moments can be a great way to break the ice and get players comfortable with each other. Players who are working together can create incredibly memorable stories.
I love it when a player
Finds a creative solution! My favorite stories always involve a player doing something unbelievable that somehow works.
