About Benjamin Wagner
I'm male (he/him), from the UK and on the wrong side of thirty. I love TTRPG's, playing them, and watching actual plays. I am an aspiring author, and love a variety of genres, with fantasy being my largest love. Working with my players to craft interesting stories and wonderful memories is my biggest hope, and I look forward to talking with many people on this site. And you won't see any Generative AI slop from me. Just human made fun :D

I started running games because...
I love telling stories, and the stories I tell with others are even better. Co-operative story telling is such a wonderful medium.
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
welcoming, cooperative, and patient
When I'm not running games I'm...
working on countless never-ending novels
How Benjamin Wagner runs games
I love GM'ing, either in a world of my own creation, or one already crafted by the makers of these games. I love combat to be fair, but challenging- where death is possible, but not an ever present threat. I love map creation, and I try to think out each battlemap in advance, and to create different tactical avenues for the players to benefit from. Some encounters may not be weighted in the player's favour, but this will be under the discretion of the players, and will be warned gently that there is a large risk at this point. Roleplay is the reason I really got into DND, and I encourage any players to have fun with it. It doesn't matter if you want to put on an accent or do a funny voice, although I must admit I do, as long as you have fun immersing yourself in the character you have created. My main focus is the player, and ensuring they have the most fun they can.

I deal with rules issues by...
discussing the issue with the players and asking their opinions. I will explain my point of view, and I am happy to go with the consensus on contentious issues. Rules shouldn't obscure fun.
Rules are...
important, but fun comes first. If rules obscure the enjoyment of the combat, and the role-play, then they need to be discarded. Rules should work as a guide, not as a law.
When it comes to voices
I love them. I'm not good at many, but I love the whimsy that voicing characters provides.
Benjamin Wagner's ideal table
I'd like to think I could DM any table, but if I were to handpick an ideal table, I would like players that are invested in the story we are telling. I love combat, but I find that it can often overshadow role playing. Each player living their character, and contributing to the session makes me the happiest, as when everyone feels comfortable enough to participate, then that means the table is cohesive, and far more likely to have fun. I'd like the vibe to be relaxed, but with the potential to tell more serious stories if the moments arise.

I am for a vibe that's...
welcoming to newcomers and experienced players alike. Serious campaigns and serious stories are great, but not if they become tedious and unenjoyable. TTRPG's are games, meant for storytelling and enjoyment, and I want to create an environment where we can all have fun.
I think it's a red flag when players...
try to make the game about themselves. This is an open, friendly, co-operative environment, and everybody should get their own chance to experience the story in their own way. There is no main character, just a group of people, rolling dice and having fun.
I think metagaming...
should be avoided if possible. With experienced players, its not possible to forget that trolls need to be hit by fire. But try not to spoil the fun for the others as they discover this themselves. Failure is just as much part of the game as success.
