About me
👋 Hey there! I'm a DM/GM who absolutely loves running games. With four years of D&D 5e under my belt, including three years as a DM, I bring a ton of enthusiasm and know-how to every session. I'm originally from Scotland, but I've been living in Japan for almost a decade now, working as an English teacher (sensei). My Japanese isn't perfect, but I get by just fine. I often play online games with fellow expats and run games in Tokyo. Because of the time zone difference, I might take a bit longer to respond, but I always try to reply as quickly as possible via SP or my Discord page. For me, clear communication is key. I think most issues in D&D can be sorted out by talking things through, so I always offer a short, optional review session after each game. Before we dive into a one-shot, adventure, or campaign, I make sure to explain how everything will run to keep things smooth and fun for everyone. I look forward to rolling some dice with you!
GM Style
I support all three pillars of D&D 5e gameplay: role-playing, combat, and exploration. Each pillar provides opportunities for players to be creative and contribute to the story. Player agency is paramount in my games, and I respect and reflect player choices within the game world. Everyone deserves their moment in the spotlight, and I strive to make that happen. 📖Rules📖 I generally adhere to rules as written to ensure a shared understanding of the game. However, the primary goal is to have fun. Sometimes, I make DM rulings that differ from the rules to enhance the gaming experience. 🪦PC Death🪦 In the games I run, character death is possible and usually permanent. This makes it so that the players know their choices really do matter. It adds an extra layer of tension and excitement. I try to roll dice openly, so everyone can see their successes and failures. This way players can see that victories are earned, and challenges are genuinely formidable. 💎Tone💎 I run serious adventures with a touch of comedy. My games are for mature participants only (18+). 💻Game Environment💻 I use D&D Beyond for character creation and online dice rolls, Discord for communication and updates, and Owlbear Rodeo 2.0 for combat encounters. D&D Beyond and Discord require accounts, while Owlbear is a simple platform that requires no registration—just open the invite link in your browser and you're ready to play. 🛠️Safety Tools🛠️ I use various safety tools to ensure a comfortable and safe gaming environment for all participants. Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected while playing. ⛔Game Etiquette⛔ Mutual respect and understanding are essential. Abusive behavior towards the DM or fellow players is not tolerated and will result in a ban from future games. Discussions on politics or real-life issues are discouraged, as they can detract from the gaming experience. We all come from diverse backgrounds, and the game should be a space for positive, inclusive interaction. 🗣️Questions🗣️ If you have any questions, in-game or out, please ask. Clear communication helps me provide a great TTRPG experience. The more you share about your expectations and any uncertainties, the better I can tailor the game to your needs. May you always roll with advantage! 🎲🎲

Scottish Sensei is a DM who guides players but respects their choices and rewards creativity. His manner allows everyone the chance to create character bonds in no time leading to epic and dramatic outcomes. His worlds and NPCs are vivid and memorable. No one shot is the same. Each session is a carefully prepared journey into ordered chaos. You cannot go wrong with him; high stakes, comedy and nerve-racking tension. Follow him out the door and down the road to adventure. You won’t be disappointed!
Playing with Scottish Sensei as our DM has been an unforgettable experience. His mastery of the rules, combined with a strong sense of the "Rule of Cool," makes each session exciting and unpredictable. The world he’s crafted is immersive and detailed, and he effortlessly integrates player backstories into the narrative, making everyone feel essential to the story. Beyond his storytelling skills, Scottish Sensei’s friendly and approachable demeanor creates a positive, collaborative atmosphere at the table. Highly recommended as a nat 20 DM.
Played a few homebrew oneshots and now in a campaign with the Sensei and enjoyed them all. I have seen a good variety of encounters making for interesting combat - also good opportunities for roleplay and he makes an effort to engage all players to give them spotlight time. He gives good descriptions but backs them up with images to bring key things to life. He uses owlbear rodeo in combo with dndbeyond which is really simple and works well. Seen a few beginners play and he works well with them.
Scottish Sensei is first and foremost very welcoming and inclusive. He has a great intro session at game 0 to set up group expectations and rules and getting to know one another. He’s very knowledgeable regarding game rules and is also patient with people who are new or who haven’t played in a while. He incorporates excellent visuals in his very rich storytelling and his ability to change his pitch, tone, and cadence make his NPCs vibrant. 10/10 would game with again.
