About Scottish Sensei
đź‘‹ Hey there! I'm a GM who absolutely loves running games. With five years of ttrpg experience under my belt, including three years as a GM, I bring a ton of enthusiasm and know-how to every session. I'm originally from Scotland, but I've been living in Japan for over a decade, working as an English teacher (sensei). My Japanese isn't perfect, but I get by just fine. I often play online games with fellow expats and run games in Tokyo. Because of the time zone difference, I might take a bit longer to respond, but I always try to reply as quickly as possible via SP or my discord server. For me, clear communication is key. I think most issues can be sorted out by talking things through, so I always offer a short, optional review session after each game. Before we dive into a one-shot, adventure, or campaign, I make sure to explain how everything will run to keep things smooth and fun for everyone. I look forward to rolling some dice with you!

How Scottish Sensei runs games
I support all three pillars of TTRPG gameplay. Role-playing, combat, and exploration. Whether running D&D 5e or Daggerheart. Each pillar provides opportunities for players to be creative and contribute to the story. Player agency is paramount in my games, and I respect and reflect player choices within the game world. Everyone deserves their moment in the spotlight, and I strive to make that happen. 📖Rules📖 For D&D 5e, I generally adhere to rules as written to ensure a shared understanding of the game. However, the primary goal is to have fun, so I sometimes make rulings that differ from the rules to enhance the experience. For Daggerheart, I follow the spirit of the system’s narrative-first design while ensuring clarity and fairness at the table. 🪦PC Death🪦 In the games I run, character death is possible and usually permanent (depending on the system). This makes it clear that player choices matter and adds an extra layer of tension and excitement. I roll dice openly when possible, so everyone can see their successes and failures. Victories are earned, and challenges are genuinely formidable. 💎Tone💎 I run serious adventures with a touch of comedy. My games are for mature participants only (18+). 💻Game Environment💻 I use D&D Beyond and Demiplane for character creation and online dice rolls, Discord for communication and updates, and Owlbear Rodeo 2.0 for combat encounters. D&D Beyond and Discord require accounts. Demiplane is used for Daggerheart and provides character sheets and digital tools. This also requires an account. Owlbear Rodeo requires no registration. Just click the link and you’re ready to play. 🛠️Safety Tools🛠️ I use various safety tools to ensure a comfortable and respectful environment for everyone at the table. This includes lines and veils, breaks, consent checks and session debriefs. ⛔Game Etiquette⛔ Mutual respect and understanding are essential. Abusive behavior towards the GM or fellow players will result in removal from future games. Real world politics or contentious topics are discouraged since we all come from diverse backgrounds, and this space should remain inclusive and fun. 🗣️Questions🗣️ If you have any questions, in-game or out, please ask. Clear communication helps me provide the best possible TTRPG experience. The more you share about your expectations, the better I can tailor the game to your needs. May you always roll with advantage, or hope! 🎲🎲✨
Scottish Sensei's ideal table
As long as everyone respects each other and is willing to communicate then you are welcome at the table.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
imaginative, creative sandbox style games where your choices really shape the story
I love it when a player
comes up with a creative idea, whether it’s a clever narrative twist or a wild mechanical move, to tackle a challenge. I’m always their biggest fan, even if I’m playing the villain at the table!
My perfect party mix is
a collection of role players who love getting into character, tacticians who enjoy tough combat encounters, storytellers who add flavor to the world, and a wildcard or two to keep things unpredictable. Together, it’s the kind of group that makes every game session a memorable one.
