About Bettina

For the last six years, I have been DM'ing 5e for family and friends. Before that I played and DM'd other editions since the days of AD&D. I have always had a flair for the dramatic and been involved in theatrical productions since childhood. I enjoy the collaborative storytelling of D&D, adventures tailored for a small group with no audience just a group of friends old and new. I've recently started playing at a local gaming store, and I'm enjoying the challenges of new and experienced players. The friendships built around RPGs are unique and rewarding. I still share inside jokes with players through the decades.

I became a GM because

I enjoy creating meaningful stories.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Goofy, imaginative, creative

When I'm not running games I'm...

Creating art, building props, costumes, or writing. I like to spend time in the yard and playing with my friends fur babies.

How Bettina runs games

Most of my games tend to be heavy role play and are usually filled with mystery and intrigue, things aren't always as they seem. I use puzzles & traps that always have more than one way to solve them. I enjoy a good homebrew or 3rd party item provided it's not OP and adds to the flavor of your character or the story. I have had a few player deaths and a TPK or two, but in a world with magic or tech there is always a work around.

Featured Prompts

I once ran a session...

Using only random d100 tables. Everyone went into the session knowing they had to get from point A to point B, and that they would discover secrets to further the plot of the ongoing campaign. The secrets were fixed, but everything else was improvised. We all had a blast.

I prep by

Bullet points are my friend. Usually when I spend the most time prepping is when my players go in a completely different direction. So I tend to be very general in my prep.

Rules are...

Subjective. I'm a firm believer in the rule of cool. If you give me a good enough reason to break a rule we will break it.

Bettina's ideal table

Play fair, share the spotlight. I like players who encourage others to take unusual risks and support the PC bad decisions as well as the good ones. I don't mind input when someone knows the rules, but I will always lean towards interesting cause and effect over RAW.
