About Senti (Jay)

Hi! I'm Senti (or Jay), I'm 29, a high femme queer, and I've been playing TTRPGs for 10 years, starting out with D&D 5E. I also have experience with 3.5E, Vampire the Masquerade, and Call of Cthulhu. I've been DMing D&D 5E for 5 years, Vampire the Masquerade for 2 years, and Call of Cthulhu for 1 year! I love games focused around a mystery or a whodunit, and I love light elements of drama, romance, and angst. I'm a fiend for roleplay and exploration, and I prefer to run combat-lite games. I got into TTRPGs for the community and friendship I knew I'd find, and I still have 10-year-old (and counting) friendships from my first game I ever played. This is the major reason I got into running games. I always look at TTRPGs as a way to build bridges and friendships and as a way to welcome more people into an accepting and creative community. I prefer to run my games as Rule of Cool focused and plot driven. My main goal as a DM is always to build an enticing adventure to let my players live out their fantasies and dreams. My primary love language is Acts of Service, so I always feel rewarded when I can run a game that my players love.

My favorite system of all Time is

Am I a loser if I say Never Stop Blowing Up? The Exploding Dice mechanic is one of my all-time favorites to use for modern-themed games. I'm definitely the most comfortable with D&D 5E, and the system itself is fantastic, but I understand how it might be a bit complex for newer players.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Playing video games. I'm a big fan of RPGs (duh), survivalcraft, or ANYTHING with a time loop mechanic. If I'm too stressed about real life, I pick up a life sim or cozy farming game so I can stress about fake life instead.

How Senti (Jay) runs games

As a GM, my main goal is to give my players a hook, let them follow it, and lay the path for them to get there, however crooked it might be. I'm here to support and challenge them, not outright kill them. I want us to have fun. Now, if YOU think your character dying is fun, then sure. I'll do that for you. But I'm not looking to ruin the adventure. I prefer roleplay and exploration to combat. I will do as many scenes as my players want. There's nothing wrong with a dungeon crawl, it's just not my cup of tea. I do still like combat, I just don't want to run a combat-focused game. For me, it's not about the numbers. It's about the story. I prefer to run a Rule of Cool ship, as opposed to following strict RAW guidelines. Rules can bend. Some of them can even break. If we have to tweak things a little bit for the CINEMA of it all, then why not? Sidenote: I have like 5 character voices but I'm WORKING ON IT

I deal with rules issues by...

Asking the table. I trust my players, and I trust their interpretations of rules. If we can all agree on a ruling, awesome. If not, that's when I Google. If I can find a suitable answer within a few minutes, then cool! If not, it's "RAW until the end of game," then after we can look more in depth.

My favorite trope is...

Scary giant with a big heart. Goliath druids. Warforged nature clerics. 7-foot-tall Scary Man with fuzzy animal companion. God, I eat it up every single time. I also love amnesiac and orphan backgrounds. There's just SO MUCH to play with there!

Senti (Jay)'s ideal table

My first table priority is inclusion and a sense of safety. I know how amazing the TTRPG space can be, but I've also seen the other side of the coin. Some tables are incredibly nasty and set in their old ways, and I NEVER want my players to feel like they can't be their true selves. ESPECIALLY queer, POC, or neurodivergent players! Second, I want my table to feel like a hangout. Like friends coming together for a weekly game night, with a bit of chatter and jokes and laughter. It should be a place to decompress.

I love it when a player

Hands me a long, detailed backstory and says, "Here you go! We can change a couple of things to fit into the world you have set up." On the other hand, I also LOVE when a player says, "Here's my open-ended backstory. Go crazy." Like? Yes, I absolutely will! And you will regret it! (Lovingly)
