The Dance of Dreams — an Introduction to the Væsen RPG

About the adventure

Content Warning: This game deals with depictions of the magic, the supernatural, death, and the dead. While it does not attempt to use any of those themes gratuitously, players who are sensitive to those topics should avoid this scenario. The party is called to a country inn by a police detective who says he urgently needs the expertise of the Society, a secretive group to which you belong who are sworn to investigate supernatural mysteries and make things right before harm can come to innocent people. Your party will rely on teamwork and wits to discover the nature of the problem before an ancient curse is set free in Uppland. This is an introductory adventure for the Vaesen role playing game by Free League Publishing. It will be played over 3 to 4 sessions occurring every second Sunday until the mystery is complete. Players who have a character they enjoy playing are invited to use that same character in future Vaesen mysteries that I Game Master. We will be using Fantasy Grounds Unity and Discord to play. If you do not own a license for Fantasy Grounds Unity, you can download and install the free “demo” version and you can enjoy full player functions in any games which I Game Master. If you want, you can also enjoy atmospheric sounds provided by Syrinscape at no additional charge.

How to prepare

You will need a mic if you want to engage in the party Discord voice channel during play. We do not stream video. This game session will use both Fantasy Grounds and Discord, if you have disabilities which prevent you from enjoying Fantasy Grounds, you can play through Discord Only. If you are using Fantasy Grounds Unity, please install it before game time, you can use the free or demo version found here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/home/FantasyGroundsUnity.php

Gameplay details

This game deals with Gothic Horror themes, which include frightening depictions of death and the supernatural, as well as frank discussions of the exploitation and abuse of the common people of the 19th century. Secondary themes of industrialization, imperialism, religion, warfare, and the occult are also present. During the campaign the PCs will investigate supernatural events and research ways to eliminate threats to public safety, through a monster-of-the-week format. Violence will not solve most problems the PCs are presented with, although they will often be in physical, mental, and emotional danger. Moral and ethical problem solving will be commonplace. The Game Master expects players to treat one another with courtesy at all times.

How will character creation work

You can arrive online 30 minutes before the first game session and I can walk you through a quick character generation process, or you can choose from one of several pre-generated characters provided.

Players can expect

• Find a game to join solo or search for a professional game master for you and your friends/coworkers/family.
• Book your session and wait for the Game Master to approve you.
• If you don't have a blast with your first game, your next game is on us.
