About the adventure

The king is dead! In the Varisian port city of Korvosa, the death of a monarch leads to chaos, and only the PCs can hope to save the city from its own darkest tendencies. As the rule of the young queen grows more and more draconian, it's up to a band of bold adventurers to stop the spread of tyranny before all of Korvosa is crushed beneath her iron fist. In the Curse of the Crimson Throne Adventure Path, the heroes delve into the depth of urban adventure in order to stop riots, combat a plague, root out organized crime, and rescue political prisoners before escaping to the harsh badlands of the Storval Plateau, where only the friendship of the barbaric Shoanti and a weapon drawn from the heart of a gothic castle can give them the strength to return and depose the evil queen once and for all. Even before Curse of the Crimson Throne begins, you and the other PCs have a shared trait—you’ve all been wronged, in some manner, by the despicable Gaedren Lamm. The campaign you are about to begin starts as you and several other promising young heroes are brought together to do what the city guards cannot (or will not) do—to see that Gaedren Lamm answers for his crimes, be that in a court of law or at the edge of a vengeful blade. VARIANT RULES - Free Archetype: take a Dedication to give another dynamic to your character - Critical Hit/Fumble Deck: Let's make those natural 20s count with extra effects! - Hero Point variant: Hero Points will add 10 to any roll below 10 with the exception of a natural 1. You may also spend them to make me reroll a d20. Play-by-Post is a text-based method of experiencing tabletop games. It is far more suited to those with busy lives, unpredictable schedules, or who just like taking that extra bit of time to work out exactly what their character would do or say. It is slower than live, but still as fulfilling, fun, and can be more creative. I will push for daily posts, regular updates, and engaged momentum. It is the best way to avoid stagnation, although the odd day off is generally a good idea. I look forward to playing with you!

How to prepare

Just join the Discord! I'll go through how to set up Harpy, the Kobold Discord bot, and our expectations. https://discord.gg/FEkRQTVBQk

What I provide

I use a number of assets and features to allow for a great PbP experience. I use Harpy VTT for a PbP-focused platform, Discord for admin and management, official art and appropriate scene artwork, playlists for immersion, and a professional yet down-to-earth style to make you feel welcome but give you the Premium experience.

Gameplay details

I like to follow the rules but allow for creative solutions and some appropriate bending. Combat should aim to be snappy, and I make sure that everyone knows when their turn is approaching so that they have plenty of time to think and react. Table Etiquette: - This is a game: having fun is always the first goal. This expands to all players - GM included. - Respect the team: racism, homophobia, xenophobia, sexism, or any other toxic and disgraceful behaviour will not be tolerated. We are all human beings, so let's celebrate that. - Communication is key: conflict happens, and often enhances the game as a whole. Make sure that you check in with everyone so that we can be clear about where that conflict stops. - Be reasonable and clear with your expectations: every character has a story, and campaigns are long-form. I'll do my best to make sure that everyone feels that they have had valuable "screen-time", but I would also ask that you remain patient and respectful of the fact that the spotlight may shine on others for a time, too. That being said, I - as a mistake-prone and fallible human - will always take the time to listen and discuss any grievances. This refers back to the previous point. - Do not be a ghost: this does not mean "don't be quiet". Some people aren't as keen on role-play, and that is fine. What I am referring to, is people exiting with no word or explanation. If our game is not your cup-of-tea, that is absolutely fine, and I hope that you find a better fit soon. If that is the case, please let us know. I always appreciate feedback, and that way we can fill the spot, and the game doesn't grind to a halt whilst we find explanations as to why your character isn't there.

How will character creation work

The character options for this particular adventure are incredibly varied as any adventurer could have been affected by the crime lord Gaedren Lamm. It is also an incredibly flexible system, allowing for a great range of character options and builds. The Players' Guide (provided in the Discord) will give many options to help. It is recommended to use either Pathbuilder or Wanderer's Guide to build the characters (I will help with this if needed) to ensure the builds are viable and working with the Discord bot. We begin at level 1 and will play all the way up to level 20 by the time the adventure is over.

Players can expect
