About the adventure

Suitable for fans of dungeon-crawling everywhere, this adventure will be WotC's Dungeon of the Mad Mage, as played on Roll20. This adventure takes the party through as many as 23 floors of the dungeon, and those who see it through can reach 20th level - starting from 5th! If finding hidden treasures, avoiding traps, outsmarting opponents and seducing the unseducable is your speed, be sure to check it out! This dungeon is challenging, but your DM believes in you. You can do it!

How to prepare

You will need a discord account, a computer mic, and a Roll20 account to play this game. A general familiarity with the rules of D&D 5E is also appreciated, but you do not need to have any rules memorized. (If you are playing a spellcaster it is recommended that you are somewhat familiar with your spells, but that's a courtesy for your fellow players more than for me.) We will handle character creation during session 0 or at another 'off-the-clock' time if we can't complete it during that time. You do not need to own the adventure or any Dungeons and Dragons product to play; I am supplying the module.

What I provide

We'll be playing through the Dungeon of the Mad Mage module on Roll20, which will include lighting/fog of war as well as detailed, fully populated, mono-colored maps of each of the dungeon's 23 levels. Locations outside of the dungeon are not included in the module and will usually rely on theater of the mind for their visuals. I use discord for the voice channel rather than using Roll20's built-in audio tools. I include a free session 0 to set expectations, help with character creation and get a sense of the group's dynamic and interests. We'll discuss some optional rules at that time too, including how to handle any potential TPKs that might occur. I'm available on discord outside of gameplay hours within reason to discuss the game, your character, your expectations and play experience. I want you to have a good time and I'm so excited to be a part of it. I love this dungeon and I want you to love it too!

Gameplay details

I start with a free session 0, which will include discussion about the adventure and the potentially triggering content within it, as well as setting a standard that myself and the players will follow concerning sensitive content. We also discuss the included X card at this time. I make it clear that players are welcome to step away from the game for any reason without fear of judgment or in-game consequences.

How will character creation work

This adventure starts PCs at level 5, and can go all the way to 20th level. Character creation is something I'm available to help with during session 0 (and to some extent on discord). I like to discuss character creation with the group ahead of time to determine whether the majority prefers to use the standard array, roll their own stats or utilize the point-buy system. If you're comfortable handling your own character creation, you can send me a PDF of the completed PC and I can make a Roll20 version of that character for you. I accept all WotC races, classes and subclasses. If you want to use a race, class or subclass outside of official material, reach out and ask - I try to be accommodating! For instance, I'm familiar with the Valda's Spire of Secrets (Mage Hand Press) classes as well as a lot of the Kobold Press subclasses. After some nightmare glitches, I do not use Roll20's Charactermancer - I input characters directly. I'm happy to make updates to your sheet as you level or allow you to make the changes manually yourself; I'm not afraid to give players control of their sheets, I just can't handle another Charactermancer issue.
