If you’re like me, Monsterhearts appeals to you as a TTRPG because the doll line Monster High left a significant impact on my young adult life. You have a fashionable monster OC ready to whip out at a moment’s notice (Sarah Sphinx, daughter of THE Sphinx, thank you very much), but no game to insert them in. Thankfully, in the age of the internet, it’s easier than ever to find a group to play with! Here are some of my favorite sites for finding some ghouls and gals running Monsterhearts games.
STARTPLAYING
Startplaying is the gold standard in finding your dream game. Startplaying wants you to feel safe and welcome at the table, and makes sure that you are playing with a GM you want to play with. You see everything they’re bringing to the table, aspects they value of gameplay, and full transparency of what the game will look like. Unlike other sites, you can see reviews from prior players, and safety tools utilized at the table. Finding your dream Monsterhearts game is easy and convenient, and soon, everyone will get to meet your Monster High self-insert OC.
REDDIT LFG
Good ol’ Reddit, where you can find a group for ANY game. There’s always people looking for people to fill out their virtual home games. GMs introduce themselves, what their style of gameplay looks like, and expectations for players. Games can happen anywhere, from over Zoom, Discord, or other gaming platforms. However, going through a LFG Reddit forum is a bit like digging for treasure, it may be a while before you find what you’re looking for.
ROLL 20
Alright, maybe going to a Reddit forum feels a little intimidating, and you would like a way to filter out excess noise so you can find what you’re looking for. Moving to Roll20 might be a better option for you, especially with the site’s ability to let you build characters and meet for sessions in the same place. Each game has subcategories, like when the next game will be, the frequency of the game, and the language the game will be played in. This allows any aspiring Monsterhearts player to lock in and find a game that works for them
