the ruinous realm of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. This distinctively grimy take on fantasy TTRPGs is a popular alternative to the shiner world of D&D, featuring in-depth career-based mechanics and danger around every corner.

Not to be confused with Warhammer 40K (which besides some tenuous lore similarities bears no connection) or Age of Sigmar (a high fantasy, epic-god-quest version of the Old World), Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay is a generally low fantasy setting blending heroic adventure with grimdark comedy. From the misty forests of the Reikland to the bustling streets of Altdorf, your adventure awaits, but only if you can find the right companions. Here are the five best places to find your Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay group, ranked.

‍

1. StartPlaying

When it comes to finding the perfect gaming group, it’s hard to beat StartPlaying. They offer a curated selection of verified, experienced GMs, the type who will really know their Pestigors from their Centigors. Every GM undergoes a verification process and builds a reputation through player reviews, ensuring you're getting the best possible gaming experience in WFRP. The ‘Find Game’ search feature lets you filter specifically for Warhammer Fantasy RP across all editions, showing available slots, scheduling information, session frequency, pricing, and so on.

Beyond that, StartPlaying also handles the more technical details like payment processing and scheduling conflicts so you can focus on whether your character will survive their next encounter with chaos dwarves. Finding a quality WFRP group doesn’t have to feel like a slog through the Drakwald Forest.

2. Discord

Discord servers offer a vibrant hub for Warhammer Fantasy enthusiasts to gather, swap tales, and form adventuring parties. There are several to check out. The first one is Warhammer Fantasy Battle & The Old World, which has a Looking For Game (LFG) channel called “LFG and Community Building.” The other one is Warhammer Fantasy RP which has a “Quest Board” channel under the RP category, where GMs post details for quests they’re running with details like risk level and factions involved. Both servers have memberships in the hundreds, and you’ll find a relatively steady flow of both official and homebrew content. The other server to check is the largest, The Rat Catchers Guild, which boasts thousands of members. It has a “Community Content” category with an LFG channel as well as one for listing available games to join.

In all of these options, you’ll usually find some of the paid games are actually run through StartPlaying. While you might have to lurk for a few weeks before finding the right game, the community here is knowledgeable and passionate, and tend to know the Old World like the back of their hand.

‍

3. Reddit

Searching for a gaming group on reddit is a more chaotic option with the possibility of high rewards—in other words, very on brand for Warhammer Fantasy RP. The main subreddit is r/WarhammerFantasyRPG, with a modest but dedicated following with a fairly regular cadence of LFG posts. Of course, there’s always the more general r/LFG subreddit where WFRP games can be found via a general search. You’ll want to avoid r/WarhammerFantasy, as that is mostly about merch and minis as opposed to finding a group.

On reddit's WFRP community, you'll find thoughtful discussions about the setting, creative ideas for adventures, and occasionally veteran players looking to start or join games. That said, as with most online communities, it's worth checking a poster's history before committing to a group.

‍

4. Facebook

There are many Facebook groups dedicated to Warhammer Fantasy RP. The largest is for the current and most popular version, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4th Edition. With over 9,000 members, you’ll find the standard array of memes and chatter, but a regular flow of LFG posts as well. Another one about half that size is WFRP 1st Edition Fans, which talks mostly about lore but still has some LFG content, too. The rest of the Facebook groups out there won’t have much for players looking to join a group. They’ll mostly be about minis and other merchandise, either as a marketplace or as a kind of show-and-tell, which is great, but not generally conducive to game-seekers.

While there are a few other options, like general LFG forums on Virtual TableTops (VTTs) like Roll20 for free or paid games, nowadays these tend to shy away from LFG/LFP posts for WFRP and are mostly more useful for getting a feel for the community.

Sigmar Guide You

Warhammer Fantasy RP offers a uniquely comprehensive fantasy gaming experience that has captivated gamers for generations. While there are multiple avenues to find your perfect group to brave the Old World, StartPlaying offers the most reliable path to the ultimate quest, especially in conjunction with the related Discord servers.
