About the adventure
Khalifa: Sands of Destiny is a character-driven fantasy adventure set in a vast desert metropolis where ancient cultures, advanced technology, political intrigue, and passions collide. Expect a cinematic mix of roleplay, exploration, investigation, tactical combat, and meaningful choices, with multiple paths to solve problems and consequences that can reshape the world around you. Khalifa is a living city filled with rival factions, hidden secrets, powerful organizations, and opportunities to build your own reputation, wealth, and legacy. What makes the campaign unique is its emphasis on player freedom—you aren't following a predetermined story; you are creating the story, and the world will remember what you do. This campaign is for new and veteran players, no previous DnD experience necessary but always welcomed! About me
My name is Daniel Hammond - Dani Dragon is my title as a GM. I am a cook by trade, but a game master by passion. I am the forever GM in my current friend group, and I actually learned to play DnD by being the GM for my friends in high school. I mostly GM in person, but I have also put in a number of hours on Roll 20 in my custom campaign world of Nos Krysta. My passion for DnD comes from a long time obsession with fantasy in general - the Lord of the Rings books were very formative for me. I also have a love for anime that influences my love for fantasy as well. Combine this with my passion for writing, and being the game master for my friends just kind of came naturally! I write short stories in my free time, and I bring that attention to detail into all my world building. All my characters are deeply immersed in the world they live in, so I try to do the same thing for my players as well. I'm invested in your characters role in the story, and will work with you to weave their backstory, goals, and relationships into the narrative of the story as well. I'm here to create a customized story that caters to what you are looking for in a campaign, not to railroad you into something you aren't interested in. Do you enjoy epic quests? Are you looking for deep character development? Do you want a deep immersive world to explore? Are you looking for a player driven story where your choices make a difference in the world? Are you looking for a fun and inclusive table where you can just relax and have a good time? If any of these things are what you are looking for, please consider me as the GM for your next adventure! Creating your character
I offer a free session zero to any new player(s) to my table, or anytime I start a new campaign. During session zero, we will hash out what kind of character the player is trying to create, and how they are integrated into the world based on their background story, and the players prefered gameplay style (hack-and-slash, problem-solving, character driven, slapstick, tactical, etc,.) In this campaign I have players start at level 1. Leveling up is achieved by reaching specific milestones in the game (i.e completing quests, defeating certain enemies, moving the plot forward, etc,.) After a species (race) and class are chosen, stats are rolled individually with 4 D6 dice, dropping the lowest dice and taking the total. Do this six times and those will be the stat numbers, the player is allowed to allocate the numbers how they see fit. All players get a +2 to one stat and a +1 to another of their choice, regardless of the species (race) that is chosen. They only reading I recommend for new players is the official Player's Guide Handbook distributed by WOTC , this has everything you need to know getting started as a new player to the 5e system of DnD.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
The only online accounts you need to play are the free versions of Roll20 and Discord. I have a Discord server that I use specifically for DnD sessions, I will put the links to both in the bottom of this article. I can also use DnD Beyond if the players prefer that website over Roll20. What Dani Dragon brings to the table
As your GM, I’ll bring Khalifa to life with a deep world packed with lore, colorful NPCs with distinct personalities and voices, immersive ambient music, and cinematic combat that makes every encounter feel like a scene from an epic adventure. Most importantly, this is a role-playing experience where your characters, choices, and creativity take center stage—and we follow two rules above all else: the Rule of Cool—if it’s awesome, we’ll find a way to make it happen—and the FAFO Rule—actions have consequences, so be prepared to find out!
Homebrew rules
Homebrew Rules are as follows: 1. Potions can be used as a bonus action. 2. Monks can grapple on a successful hit without making a strength check, the target automatically fails if they are hit. 3. Injury, bleeding and madness mechanics are a big part of combat now (ask Gm for more info). 4. Critical hits and critical fails now have random effects attached to them. 5. Inspiration points can be easily gained, entertain me!

How Dani Dragon creates a safe table
On the subject of comfort and consent. All players will receive a Lines & Veils document before the campaign begins. This allows you to privately identify subjects you want excluded entirely (Lines) or handled off-screen (Veils). No explanation is ever required. What you can expect from session zero. Session 0 covers character creation, party connections, campaign expectations, tone, house rules, scheduling, safety tools, and table etiquette. It’s also an opportunity to discuss what each player wants from the campaign and make sure everyone starts on the same page. X, N, & O's at my tables. Safety tools will be digital and available throughout every session. Players can privately message me at any time: X — Stop or change the scene. N — Adjust course. O — Everything is okay; continue. No justification is necessary, and players can always speak to me directly instead. What you can expect for aftercare? After an especially intense or emotional scene, I’ll check in with the table and provide time to decompress when needed. Players can also contact me privately after a session with concerns or feedback they’d rather discuss one-on-one. The story is important. Player comfort is more important.
