About Dani Dragon

My name is Daniel Hammond - Dani Dragon is my title as a GM. I am a cook by trade, but a game master by passion. I am the forever GM in my current friend group, and I actually learned to play DnD by being the GM for my friends in high school. I mostly GM in person, but I have also put in a number of hours on Roll 20 in my custom campaign world of Nos Krysta. My passion for DnD comes from a long time obsession with fantasy in general - the Lord of the Rings books were very formative for me. I also have a love for anime that influences my love for fantasy as well. Combine this with my passion for writing, and being the game master for my friends just kind of came naturally! I write short stories in my free time, and I bring that attention to detail into all my world building. All my characters are deeply immersed in the world they live in, so I try to do the same thing for my players as well. I'm invested in your characters role in the story, and will work with you to weave their backstory, goals, and relationships into the narrative of the story as well. I'm here to create a customized story that caters to what you are looking for in a campaign, not to railroad you into something you aren't interested in. Do you enjoy epic quests? Are you looking for deep character development? Do you want a deep immersive world to explore? Are you looking for a player driven story where your choices make a difference in the world? Are you looking for a fun and inclusive table where you can just relax and have a good time? If any of these things are what you are looking for, please consider me as the GM for your next adventure! I started running games because...

I want to explore fantasy worlds with others who share my passion for TTRPG's.

My favorite shows/movies are

The LOTR Trilogy, The Dark Crystal, Rats of Nimh, Pans Labyrinth, The Indiana Jones Trilogy, Avatar (ATLA), Fullmetal Alchemist, One Piece, FLCL.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Eccentric, theatrical, dorky.

How Dani Dragon runs games

My games are very narrative in style, with a heavy emphasis on player choice. I run things in a sandbox format that allows players to have more freedom in how they want to play, while still leaving enticing reminders that there is a larger world they can explore and a deeper story they can experience if they choose to. I personally as a GM lean heavily into the role play aspects of my world, trying my best to adopt the voices and mannerisms of the NPCs I play so as to communicate the story rather then narrate it. That being said, I believe combat (while secondary to role play) is still very important from a game play and narrative aspect, so I make sure my combat is engaging for all of my players as well. I customize my battles based on the party layout so that everyone gets a chance to shine. I tend to be more forgiving in combat than other GMs because I want to see players succeed, but I also believe in giving players real consequences for their actions that echo throughout the campaign. I also believe that immersing player characters into the world is the best way for the players themselves to be invested in the game itself, so I spend a lot of time with the PCs and their players to integrate them into my fantasy worlds in a real and meaningful way. Player choice is ultimately what moves the narration forward in my campaigns, and I want all my players to be as invested in this world as I am. After all, in the end it is your story - I just created the world for you to play in!

When it comes to voices

I use them as a GM all the time, so I encourage the players to use them as well if they are comfortable doing so.

Dani Dragon's ideal table

My tables feel like controlled chaos (to me atleast), but they are still always entertaining! I tend to attract players who have very different playstyles, so I make room in my campaigns for shenanigans and things going sideways (which they often do). I also tend to lean heavily into the comedic elements of DnD in particular, partially because the game is so well suited for it and because players I've played with seem to naturally inclinate that way. I try to create an environment where players are comfortable expressing themselves - NO judgment ever at my table for role playing, this is a role playing game after all! Players who are invested in character development, deep story and exploring fantasy worlds will find a good place at my table. I enjoy combat, puzzles, riddles, and dungeons as much as any other GM, but the story and the characters within it are always my top priority!

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Epic quests, cinematic battles, deep lore, character development and player driven story

I love it when a player

Becomes invested in their character and their place in the story.

I think metagaming...

Is a great tool for role playing, and is welcome as long as is isn't disrupting other players ability to enjoy the game.
