About the adventure

Union's Department of Justice is more than just a military force. You are revolutionaries, leaders, heroes... LANCERS. With your incredible mechs, you head out to the frontiers of human space to bring new planets under the guidance of the Third Committee, freeing them from centuries of fear and tyranny. Lancer is, first and foremost, a game about people. You are not saving them from hostile aliens or inhuman creatures. You are here saving humanity from itself. An ideal game for players new to LANCER, as we will be starting at License Level Zero, with a goal of reaching at least LL6 (though hopefully we will get to LL12 before we finish). If you like action, complex tactical combat, and kicking ass in a giant robot suit, this is the game for you!

Character creation

Creating your character

The first session will be a "Session 0" and will be free. During this time, we will go over characters and basic mechanics for new players. As we are starting at LL0, making your first mech should be easy as you'll only have access to basic GMS systems so I will help everyone making their stats for the first session.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

All players should have an account with compcon.app and should have the LCPs downloaded for any sources they plan on using. I will provide the player-side LCP for Lancer Combat Enhanced, but that will be the only 3PP permitted for the game. Other player-side LCPs for official sources are already linked on compcon.app. I will send an invite link to the Discord server where the game will take place.

What Benjamin brings to the table

I will run an Owlbear Rodeo table for this game. When I run lancer, I like to keep my combats just challenging enough to make players sweat, but not so much that they feel the combat is nearly unbeatable. My combats are more puzzle than they are brawls. They are designed to be won by players who are focused on completing objectives laid out in the Sitreps, more so than by players simply focused on dealing as much damage as possible. If players want custom token art, I know a few artists who will do comissions making Retrograde Minis kitbashes. Otherwise, I have a collection of generic tokens that players can use, or players can provide their own that they've either made or found on Retrograde Minis' Custom Garage.

Homebrew rules

I do not use the "Word of Tom" ruling for Duskwing's Core Power. An NPC can be effected by as many instances of hologram explosions as you can get adjacent to them. My Ultras do not have the Juggernaut trait, as I think it's cheap and anti-fun. I run using "Brace Stun" rules. This means that when your character would be Stunned, either from taking structure damage or getting hit by an NPC system, you still get one quick action on your next turn (though other rules, such as being set to Evasion 5 or automatically failing Hull and Agi saves still apply).

Safety

How Benjamin creates a safe table

All players will be given and expected to fill out a Lines and Veils document. Additionally, if a game contains any difficult subject matter I will do a debrief after the game. Players are always free to leave my table at any time and for any reason, with no explanation needed (though I may send a DM just to make certain you're okay, and to talk if needed.) X cards can be used through the Owlbear Rodeo plugin "Rumble" and will appear on screen when used.
