About the adventure

The Old World is dying. The signs are everywhere — crumbling roads, plague carts, smoke on the horizon — but nowhere is the rot more palpable than in Averheim, the once-proud capital of Averland. A shadow hangs over its cobbled streets, and the air is thick with the scent of fear and ambition. Elector Count Marius Leitdorf, the so-called Mad Count, fell bravely at the Third Battle of Blackfire Pass, his blood spilt in a desperate bid to stop the greenskin hordes. Now, with no clear heir, the noble families circle like vultures, each vying for the vacant seat of power. While they scheme behind manor walls, a new threat rises in the docklands — a cunning and ruthless crime lord with growing influence and unknown ambitions. Meanwhile, unnoticed by the city’s elite, people are vanishing from the streets. A group of concerned citizens begins asking questions… and soon finds themselves entangled in a web of danger that could shake the Empire to its core. This is Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (WFRP), a dark and gritty tabletop RPG set in the perilous world of Warhammer. Originally created by Games Workshop, WFRP is now in its 4th Edition, published by Cubicle 7. Unlike many fantasy games where you begin as a mighty hero, in WFRP you start as someone ordinary — a rat catcher, a messenger, a barber-surgeon — and strive to survive and grow in a world where chaos, corruption, and catastrophe are never far away. This game is designed with new players in mind. You don’t need to know anything about Warhammer or roleplaying games to join — we’ll walk you through everything. Together, we’ll create characters, tell stories, and shape the fate of a city teetering on the edge. Your choices matter. Your courage will be tested. And one way or another, you’ll leave your mark on the Old World. 🕯️The Empire needs heroes — even if they don't look like heroes yet. Are you ready?

About me

Hello all, The name is Stuart. Thanks for considering me as your GM. I'm an obsessive Scottish geek and tabletop gamer, would-be writer and sometime-designer who lives in the medieval town of Worcester, England, though I don't not plan on making a habit of it. I've been tabletop gaming for 25 years or so, all sorts of systems including Dungeons and Dragons, Warhammer Fantasy and Call of Cthulhu. I've even been published in Dungeon and Dragon magazine, back in the day when those were actually magazines, as well as having numerous adventures to my credit - you can check the list at https://videogamegeek.com/rpgdesigner/29806/stuart-kerrigan I've a passion for technology, communication, teaching and an overactive imagination that is always whirring in like a perpetual hamster wheel. This endeavour is one of several to feed said hamster.

Stuart was very helpful and understanding with players new to warhammer fantasy.. His NPCs were also very animated and always entertaining to interact with. Creating a character and learning an unfamilar system was a cinch with his help.

Stuart is a great GM. Lots of fun to play his games and he throws in several well produced scenarios he wrote himself.

Character creation
Creating your character

Before your first session, you’ll create your very own Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay character in a short 30-minute session using Foundry VTT. Foundry’s built-in character creation tools streamline the process, handling the dice rolls and automating much of the rulebook-flipping — making it quick, simple, and ideal for beginners. As part of this process, you’ll also choose from one of three tailored background templates. These help shape your character’s personal story and give you ready-made connections to mentors, factions, and NPCs within the world — setting you up with strong roleplaying hooks and a sense of belonging from the start. The three background paths are: Outsider – You were disgraced, exiled, or cast out… but now you’re seeking redemption — or perhaps you’re content to revel in your infamy. Gently-Born – A child of privilege. You come from a noble household, with access to wealth, influence, and old family connections — but also noble obligations. Foreign Messenger – You are a traveller from beyond the Empire: an elven herald, dwarfen envoy, or halfling page, sent on an important errand — or perhaps seeking sanctuary. Each path offers a different window into the Old World, and each ties you directly into the people and politics of Averheim. Choose wisely — your past may come looking for you.

What to expect
Preparing for the session

🎧 What You’ll Need to Play To take part in the game, you’ll need a few basic tools: A microphone is essential — we’ll be using voice chat throughout the session. You don’t need a webcam or video setup; audio is all that’s required. Google Chrome must be installed on your computer. While other browsers (like Safari) may technically work, they often cause problems with Foundry VTT, the platform we’ll be playing on. Chrome offers the most stable and compatible experience. The rulebook — either as a PDF or a physical copy — is optional. You don’t need it to play, but you may find it helpful as you become more familiar with the game. 🗂️ Between Sessions Audio recordings of each session will be made available so you can review what happened or catch up if you miss something. The game’s Discord server is where I’ll post updates, handouts, summaries, and bonus material to keep the story moving between sessions. With just a few simple tools, you'll be ready to dive into the grim and perilous world of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay.

What Stuart brings to the table

🗺️ Tools, Maps & Resources Everything you need to play — including maps, handouts, artwork, tokens, and character creation materials — will be provided for you. You’ll have full access to these resources during the game, and the server will remain live between sessions so you can: Interact with your character Review notes or journals Download character sheets and handouts for your own collection 💻 Where We Play We’ll be using Foundry VTT, a powerful virtual tabletop designed to bring Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay to life online. It offers built-in character creation tools, integrated rules, and a richly interactive environment. Discord will be used for audio during sessions — no video required. ⚠️ Important: Foundry works best in Google Chrome. Other browsers, especially Safari, often cause issues. Please make sure Chrome is installed on your device before the game begins. You’ll be fully supported with everything you need to explore the Old World — all you need to bring is your voice, your curiosity, and a spark of courage.

Safety
How Stuart creates a safe table

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay can include themes of horror, including body horror, corruption, and psychological distress. While these are part of the setting’s grim and perilous tone, your comfort and enjoyment are always the priority. To that end, we’ll be using a simple version of the Luxton Technique, which means: We’ll have an open conversation before the campaign begins to flag any content or themes you’d like to avoid. You are always welcome to raise concerns at any point — even mid-session. If something makes you uncomfortable, you can simply type “skip” or “X” in chat, and we’ll move past it without fuss or explanation. If you’re ever unsure or want to discuss something quietly, you can message me directly. This is meant to be an enjoyable and collaborative experience. Horror may exist in the world, but it should never exist at the table. Let’s tell a dark story — together, and safely.
