「 ✦ Description ✦ 」 🦹🦸🏾♀️🦸🏽♂️🦹🏻♂️ This is a game of Masks: A New Generation.🦹🏻♂️🦸🏽♂️🦸🏾♀️🦹 For PbP: Players are expected to post at least daily 5/7 days of the week. You are the youngest generation of superheroes in the sprawling Halcyon City! 🌆 The Bronze, Silver, and Golden generations have left their mark, defining and redefining what a superhero is... and leaving you to carry the burdens of their unanswered problems. 🤦🏽♀️ Will you uphold their ideals, or create your own? 🗯️ Masks is a game about identity, growing up, and kicking villain butt. 👊💥 THE IRON HAMMER OF JUSTICE The year is 2040. There have been 4 prominent generations of supers in Halcyon: Gold, Silver, Bronze… and Iron. The Iron generation defined itself in escalation, both in violence and technological advancement. In the present day, powers are plentiful and commonplace. Human augmentation is on the rise. “Civilians” more often than not have minor powers or augmentations of their own, though there is still the rare exception. Fatalities are frequent. Morality is overshadowed by radicalism, fear, and hatred. Most heroes have blood on their hands. Will the New Generation be able to stop the cycle of violence? I had a long stint in D&D 5e before diving into more systems such as PBTA, Burning Wheel, Stars Without Number, DCC, and more. My recent obsessions are Masks: A New Generation, Monsterhearts, and Vampire: The Masquerade. Biz is one of the best GM's I've played with. Creative and knowledgeable about the rules, she expertly balanced all four character stories in our campaign from start to finish. There was never a dull moment and she made sure everyone got an equal amount of "screen time". The campaign was well crafted around each character's themes and story. Overall a great experience and a GM I highly recommend.
Biz was a GM for some friends and I a ways back for a pre-made module. She did a wonderful job of interweaving our backstories into the existing story and leading us on an incredible journey. She always put on great voices and really gave it her all which led to just an amazing experience overall! Safe to say you're in great hands with her!
Character creation
Creating your character
I will work with each player to put together a character concept, and I will offer support and guidance with character sheet set-up depending on the experience level of the player. Players will also be free to discuss character/group concepts in the discord server. In this playset, the PCs are struggling to deal with a world that has given into polarizing black-and-white thinking. They have to interact with people who have firmly made up their mind about what “justice” is, alongside general misinformation, ignorance, and bias. For the most part, PCs should be against or at least doubt the ideals of the Iron generation, otherwise the game will likely devolve into monotonous violence. Make sure your character cares about life in some capacity, and has connections that will challenge the ideals of the setting. You’re kids living in gray while the rest of the world is in black and white. This playset has a much more dire and serious tone than base Masks, and it’s certainly not for every group. For inspiration, consider The Boys and Invincible as media references. Core Playbooks + Core Expansions Excellent: Bull, Legacy, Nova, Innocent Recommended: Doomed, Protege, Transformed, Scion Okay: Beacon, Delinquent, Newborn, Joined, Brain, Soldier, Nomad Not Recommended: Janus, Outsider, Reformed, Star Note: Every playbook is possible with the right considerations, some are just more difficult to play in the setting, or their drama may detract from the setting’s themes
Asynchronous! Time/Day is just for billing. Looking for people who can post daily most days of the week, or more. GM will post at least once a day (likely more!), at least 5 days a week. Billing will start only after character creation and the first post is up. Mix of longer (descriptions, scenes) (1-6 paragraphs) and shorter (back and forth, dialogue) (1-4 sentences) responses. GM is in PST. The current player has selected the Newborn Playbook.

Players are expected to have a discord account. A basic reading of the rules is strongly encouraged, but not required.

「 ✦ TLDR ✦ 」 📜 Thoughtful homebrew 📝 Session recaps 👑 Player-driven narrative 💥 Balanced, diverse NPCs with distinct voices 📰 PDFs and handouts 「 ✦ Description ✦ 」 I have made some quality of life improvements to Masks, in collaboration with another very experienced Masks GM and player. I write recaps for each "book", and at the end of the game there will be a full recollection of the campaign available to all of the players. I encourage my players to be proactive, and let their actions shape the narrative first and foremost. My aim is to center "plot" elements around the player characters as much as possible. The players act, and the world reacts to them. That being said, I do still consider and implement independent narratives where inspiration strikes- but I make an effort not to be married to any particular outcomes, and take every chance to tie them back into the PCs narratives. I do my best to give non-player characters memorable, distinct personalities. I consider diversity when creating the cast of NPCs with a balanced, realistic approach. Also keeping balance in mind, I purposefully craft NPCs that both challenge and uplift player characters according to their comfort levels.

How Biz creates a safe table
I list many trigger warnings in my listing because I do not know what my players will wish to explore, and I am usually open to exploring any topic so long as it is done respectfully and thoughtfully. It is very important that everybody understands that character behavior and beliefs ≠ player behavior and beliefs. At my table, we play with good faith first, then address conflict in a respectful manner. In Session 0, we will set up general expectations for themes, content, and setting. In voice sessions, there will be a 5 minute break every hour unless otherwise requested. For PBP, we'll have a text discussion. After each session or "book", there will be open dialogue about the experience and players will be encouraged to post roses, thorns, and buds- which be explained in session 0, replacing stars and wishes. For PBP, this will take place after each "book", a collection of scenes. Between sessions, I will occasionally check in with players and give them a chance to voice their thoughts on the previous session, and to discuss any intended future content they might like to see. Should there be any issues, players are encouraged to speak up verbally, or message me privately, so that a discussion or break can take place, whichever is necessary. I will also monitor for potential issues and reach out appropriately when I feel something needs to be addressed.
