About me
About Me Welcome, adventurers! I specialize in running games for new players just starting their journey into the world of Dungeons & Dragons. My sessions are beginner-friendly, with plenty of patience to teach the nuances of the game in a supportive and enjoyable environment. What Makes My Games Unique My campaigns are primarily homebrewed, offering unique settings, engaging storylines, and memorable NPCs you won’t find anywhere else. Each adventure is carefully crafted to immerse players in a world of wonder, intrigue, and excitement, filled with dynamic challenges and opportunities for creative problem-solving. Whether you’re exploring mysterious ruins, forging alliances with eccentric characters, or unraveling ancient secrets, every session is tailored to be one-of-a-kind. While I love working with beginners, my campaigns are flexible and adaptable to all player abilities. Whether you prefer a relaxed session to explore storytelling or a more structured game with mechanics like tracking daily resources, I can tailor the experience to suit your style. Step into a world of adventure, and let’s roll some dice together!

Creating your character
For beginners, I am more than happy to help in the character creation process before session 0. I use DnD Beyond exclusively for character creation and encounter building, so it is all in one easy place. Unfortunately DnD Beyond does not have any sort of voice calling, so we will be using Discord has an alternative. Stats will be determined by dice roll (although I am certainly generous when it comes to bad dice rolls, no one wants 3 intelligence). I play by the new 2024 players handbook and other new material, but most of the magical items and other things introduced into the game are homebrewed, so you will be experiencing a whole new world. If you are looking for a good place to start looking into the rules, I recommend the website 5e.tools. This website has helped me become a real pro at playing 5e.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players joining this campaign will need a discord and DnD beyond account. A mic is strongly encouraged to keep the pace of the game flowing, and a webcam is not needed but also encouraged to allow for some more engaging storytelling. Other than that, the rest is up to you on what you wish to bring, I have the rest covered
What Danny Horning brings to the table
I run my games out of DnD Beyond, which gives me access the ability to show maps, and run exciting encounters through the maps section. I also have access to a stream deck and sound board, adding to the immersion of the campaign. All-in-all my games usually run as a "Rule-of-cool" style, meaning if I think it's cool, it usually happens. For groups expecting a more realistic, rule-oriented game, my campaign is easily adaptable.
Homebrew rules
Current campaigns are playing a "max hit" critical strike style. This means this first damage dice is always a max hit. for example, a critical hit doing 1d6 damage, will roll a single dice for damage, and add a 6. Ammunition and spell materials are not kept track of. Every so often the DM will call for gold to be spent, to avoid long shopping sessions.

How Danny Horning creates a safe table
Before the game begins, I ask players to come up with at least a backstory, and one player "secret" that they might be hiding from the rest of the party. It can be as simple as a player might detest cats, or a player might belong to a secret cult. The choice is yours! Additionally, if required by newer players or anyone seeking help, I can walk you through a DnD Beyond Character Creator to make your character. With players submitted characters, I also ask players to come up with some ideas oh how they would like the game to run, so I can better tailor the game towards player needs. If you have any concerns or questions about the potential content in the game, my individual and private meeting with you will be the time to address any concerns. Session 0 will look different depending on the group. For beginner groups we will go over our expectations for the game, my role as the game master, your role as a player, rules of the game, how to use a character sheet on DnD beyond, and finally introduce all our characters to the party. I expect a session 0 to be around an hour to two hours. For more experienced players, this will take a shorter amount of time as we explain the world setting, game rules and mechanics for this particular campaign, and do not go into the nitty gritty of how to play. After each session, I like to take about 20-30 minutes to check in on everyone and see how the session went, what worked and what didn't. I will additionally be available for 30 minutes after each session to do a private meeting with any player that wishes to do so.
