About the adventure
The World of Lyren needs you! Is your character down on their luck? Looking for some quick and easy coin? Scared that their enemies might be closing in on their location? Perhaps they want to find out what happened to their missing mentor? They want to honor their gods? The Quest's Beginnings You take refuge at the Silversong Inn in the city of Edern. You're deep in your cups when you are approached by the proprietor. He has a quest for you. Travel to an ancient elven ruin and claim a text you'll find there. The coin is good, and the danger is yet to be seen. My storytelling style Combats within this world will be impactful and meaningful. Your imagination will translate into actual mechanical benefits. Use the environment, use your tools in fun and creative ways, and we will try to make all these actions impact the fight. Combats will contain drama, giving way for characters to roleplay as the fight goes on (but not too much as to bog it down). NPCs in this world will be psychologically complex characters each with secrets, motivations, and lore for players to explore. The NPCs will be reacting in a living breathing world. Choose one party over another, and you will find enemies down the line. I will do voices, gestures, and odd faces when necessary. You will build relationships, rivalries, and friendships with these NPCs. Your story I will tailor the story to what you as players enjoy. If you've built a thief, we'll do things that allow you to test those skills and use them. You've built a faithful paladin, we will incorporate challenges and enforcement to that faith. The story will truly reflect your character choices. Your magic items will be important, your backstories will be important. You will matter in this game.

About me
Hello friends and adventurers all! I've always loved telling stories with my friends; tales of strife, magic, and mystery that have always held a special place in my heart. I love the stories where the rogues outwit forces greater than themselves, and the secrets of magic are discovered by the underdog. My background in theater, my love of story-rich video games, and my love of reading will all be brought to the table. Over the years my storytelling style has always been about the players. The stories we tell are about your journey, about your friendships, about your foes, and your adventures. You are what keeps the story going. This is our collaboration but you are the protagonists! Mechanics vs Story I will usually prioritize the story above the mechanics, and am a big believer in the rule of cool. If you want to do something that the rules don't completely cover, we will find a way. Your Story and Experience I want to involve your character's backstories in the narrative but if you don't have time, I can do a lot with very little. I will always try to craft an inclusive narrative for you whether you're an experienced gamer or just starting out.

Just had my first full game session (ever) with Kyle. As a complete beginner to dnd it could have been very daunting but Kyle made it very easy for me and is such a terrific storyteller that I got sucked right into the story straight away. I love the voices and the interactive maps were really helpful to visualise combat. He's made a beautiful and expansive world for our adventure and I can't wait to see where it takes us!

As a first time DND player, I feel really lucky to have landed Kyle as my DM. You can tell he puts a tonne of work into the world and characters he’s made, he always checks in at the end of the session to see how we’ve enjoyed the game and is always happy to explain things and answer questions. I just had my first ever game with him and can already tell that i am going to have a lot of fun! Kyle is an amazing dm. He makes you feel welcome, he is super invested in his player's characters, outside and inside the game he makes sure that you are having fun. He is also a great story teller and the voices he makes are really fun and super cool!

Character creation
Creating your character
After session 0 or during if we have time- You'll get a link to the campaign on dnd beyond. Use DND Beyond to make a 3rd level character using standard array or roll stats 4 times and pick the group you want (honor system). You can have 2 potions of healing for free each. 750 Gold to spend on gear or just to have. One uncommon magic item (choose a few possibilities just in case).
We will be doing 2024 rules. We currently have a tiefling Sorcerer, a Human Paladin (Oath of Devotion), and a Dwarven Cleric (Life Domain)
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Create a 3rd level character. Players should have a Webcam and Mic (We don't have to see your face if you don't wish). A stable internet connection as we will be talking on discord. We will be using Discord, DnD beyond and owlbear rodeo so setting up an account in advance for both will be good. You don't have to read the world doc in advance, it's a google doc so having a google account could help, but is not necessary. The setting is pretty open and can accommodate many needs.
What Kyle brings to the table
Get ready for an immersive high fantasy adventure that puts you and your characters in the position to move great events and shape the future of the land. The continent of Kel Kadern will be your playground with malice and magic around every corner. You will find yourself mingling with powerful nobles, devious scoundrels, kindly shopkeepers, and destitute urchins. The game will be dramatic and comedic, terrifying, and inspiring. For You I want to shape the narrative around the things that make you love gaming. My philosophy is that the game is about you, not me, the more information I have about what you love, the better. About me I love roleplay and story, my background in theater demands that I do ridiculous voices for you and join in when the drama and comedy allows. I want to help you guys forget the mundane world for some hours and collaborate with you to tell a fantastic story. I will care about your characters and your fun first. For Combat and Strategy I will be making custom maps/ and tokens when necessary to help shape the adventure and when we need to do a more tactical combat. Sometimes it might be more appropriate for theater of the mind. For the love of Lore and Cartography You'll have access to a discord server with dedicated channels to lore, regions, cities, visuals, maps, private side conversations with the storyteller. You'll learn the lore by playing. My Expectations I embrace the rule of cool, and we'll talk about that during session 0 and what that feels like to you, the player. I have a 0 tolerance for bigotry/ sexual violence or aggression towards PC's, NPCs, or players- any act like this, and you're out without a refund.

How Kyle creates a safe table
Session 0 will discuss what kind of adventure you want to have long term. We will talk a little about the world and see how it can fit around your characters, not the other way round, though it is high fantasy, so keep that in mind. Basically I want to hear what you're looking for in a game! You'll come up with a concept of your character with as much or as little backstory as you want (I can help with that, if you need). We'll also check see what storytelling style you all enjoy and I'll try to accommodate you. We will also discuss safety tools and what kind of content you don't want to experience. I'll find out about your lines and veils and take that into account while preparing the adventure. X,N,& O's will be messaged. Safe NPC- Everyone will get one NPC they can designate as 'Safe', this NPC will not betray your character under any circumstances, will help your character when able. though you must have some connection to them. They won't be used against you as well. This NPC will be level appropriate. I will check in with you after session to see how you're feeling and see if there is any way I can improve your experience.
