About me

Call me Oginme, OG, or Cliff. I have been playing D&D since 1978 and ran my first homebrewed adventures two years later. I put the game aside for a couple of decades to focus on career and family. My son asked for a Dungeons and Dragons set for his birthday and subsequently asked me to create a campaign for him and his friends. I went on to DM for two additional groups who had been abandoned by their DMs and we went on to run campaigns lasting well over two years. A decision to leave a demanding and unrewarding job handed me an opportunity to take on running games and campaigns professionally. The term professional is not one I use lightly. I have read many books, listened to many live streams, and practiced at improv and writing to improve my skills. My constant stream of imagination and flight of fantasy are activated when DMing games of DnD. I continually work to improve my delivery, voicing, and improv skills. When not playing, planning, or creating for my games, I have a small herd of LaMancha dairy goats, plant an extensive garden, play guitar, read and listen to a whole lot of books, study a variety of subjects, and cook.

Oginme is a cut above, at least above the DM's I've had. His ability to tell a free-form story with a wide world of characters and quests without feeling bogged down or getting lost is exemplary. Too many DMs try to go for the open world vibe but fall short because they can't keep up, don't take the time to prepare, or just can't handle the variable scope of such a thing, but Ognime is on top of it all the time. Over the course of a campaign... 8 months or so? We've had one session that felt a little lost, but that was a major outlier. He's great with stories, makes excellent side characters, and keeps things fresh. He ties his plots together neatly, holds your hand as much as needed or lets you go off the leash if you're comfortable. There's freedom to play who and what you want, and he does a great job integrating it into the campaign. I find that I can't think of any major faults, and even minor ones are easily overlooked! Great DM, very fun, very inclusive, knows the rules. No reason to choose anyone else if you have the opportunity!

As new player to VTTP & not having played in 32yrs. He has made me feel comfortable from the word go. He has been patient & very helpful at every turn. I look forward all week to our game. The weekly price is worth every cent. I hope to play another campaign with him once this one ends.

I am going to be in my second campaign with DM Og and its been very fun. He is very patient and so helpful in both navigating roll20, game play and just overall questions and things that might come up. I have been blessed to play with such a great bunch of folks in my first adventure and can't wait to start this next campaign adventure. DM Og is a wonderful storyteller and does all to immerse all players at his table into the adventure. He lets you try cool fun battle tactics , engage in shenanigans , and gives you time to do rp too. I think he is a wonderful DM so if you are looking, look no further, sign up and join in on the fun times. - Dax

The in-game letter below attempts to demonstrate the magnetism and allure of Oginme’s campaign to me. I can think of no greater review of a fine Dungeon Master like Oginme than to try to approach the depth and detail of his version of Critical Role’s "Land of Tal’Dorei" and his β€œre-vision” of the Lost Mine of Phandelver. Far beyond any β€œtweaked module,” Oginme brings new, unusual monsters and scarily intricate & intertwined mysteries. Mindless hoboing will get your character killed. His villains do not happily march to their deaths like computer-generated fodder. His creations constantly skirt, scout, sabotage, and surprise us. They harass, fall back, regroup, and sally forth to deny us any prize and victory. His plot clues require attention to detail and thought on the players’ part. You must sort out what is relevant and not with a fine sieve of wisdom and careful observation. He makes it all fun. You do more than play in Oginme’s game. You experience it. Your character evolves, not merely levels. Conversely to the thinking puzzles, his world of happy extras are a joyful box of Crayolas that make you laugh, giggle, and sink back into your chair, amused. These memorable characters spring to life with his villages, inns, and taverns. Oginme’s Roll20 skills are quite evident, and he is patient and helpful, scaling from answering beginner’s noob questions without judgment to pondering and debating advanced D&D minutia with aplomb. I cannot speak to his other campaigns. Look to those folks for answers. His other games never intruded into our game via delays or braggadociousness, only through his observable DM skills and calm poise. Despite the letter below, I’m the only dwarf. Humans, barbarians, tieflings, half-elves, gnomes, and goblins are all player characters. Come join us. ----------------------------------------------- My good Unkle Kreeq- may Kneemer reach you quickly with this missive. You are well known to our Kraghammer clan to be as honorable a dwarf as was ever tempered by Moradin’s soul-hammer. This anneals for my two furnace cousins as well. My companions and I were pleased to help save your new mine claim from the orcs and we recorded your isolated claim in good standing back at Halia’s Miner’s Guild in Jorenn Village. Your claim is now in peril. We may have saved Jorenn Village from the changeling of the Shadow Watch, but now disgusting illithid are using psioblins and an other-worldly shattered obelisk to enslave our good village and use our townsfolk for food as if mere cattle, save for those turned into more flayers. We both know stout dwarves can survive on mushroom soup and lichen-iodine coffee for quite a long spell when the fates force us to hunker down underground. But, dearest Unkle, when Jorenn Village falls to the flayers, your recorded claim will be forever lost, and the flayer assayers will certainly learn of your mine’s location. Even if you survive their initial siege, you three’ll be on those meager rations for the rest of your natural lives. Board up the mine and come help us save Jorenn Village from the evil of the mind flayers. It will not be easy for you, but it will be even harder if you do not. Meet us at Adabra’s Windmill. Swiftly, dear Unkle. The village, our’s, and even your own lives depend upon speed. Blessings upon you, Your nephew Sophos, green knight of the ancients.

Character creation
Creating your character

Character creation will happen during session 0 with the players rolling cooperatively to develop an array which all may choose from. We will be using Point Buy for character creation. You will be able to create your character at any point after our session 0 Characters will start at level 3 and will progress as high as the campaign takes us (typically level 12).

The current party

The current party consists of an Elf Warlock of the Great Old Ones, an Elf(?) Divine Soul Sorcerer, a Tiefling Bard, and a Volpen Illrigger. They are all currently at level 4 and are starting to make some inroads into the different factions. This campaign is written to be character driven. Each character is required to have some objective within Drakkenheim. Making steps towards achieving your objective will be rewarded with options of feats, ability score improvements, or other player requested items/abilities. Your relationship with different factions will help to determine your path, as they offer missions, objectives, and boons for helping them. This is a dark campaign with potential for character mutations, insanity, and mental stress. Please be advised. As such, there will be follow up after each session to make sure everyone is comfortable with moving forward. There is a dedicated Discord server for this game. Review notes are posted for each session detailing the events and actions of the party. Sessions will be audio recorded to construct these detailed notes.

What to expect
Preparing for the session

Please have a microphone, headset or headphones, and stable internet access. An account on Roll20 and Discord will be required to play. Information on the factions of Drakkenheim is available on the discord server and in the game on Roll20. A list of perspective goals within the city is also listed to aid in character backstory development. Each faction has various boons and benefits to being in good favor with them. Likewise, there are drawbacks to being in opposition to a given faction, and your actions individually and collectively as a party will determine your reputation with each faction.

What Oginme brings to the table

In this campaign you will enjoy extensive maps, critical handouts, interesting NPCs, and new, challenging creatures. Music and ambient sounds are specially chosen to accompany the session and add to the tone of play. I bring ease of play mods and macros to the game to allow you to focus on the play and not your character sheet. I have added many new areas and information to the base campaign to enable the play to go wherever the players wish to take it. The following compendiums are available within the game: PBH (2014), Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes, Monster Manual, Explorer's Guide to Wildemount, Tal'Dorei Reborn, Dungeons of Drakkenheim Within these compendiums, all species choices presented are available. Home brewed material or published material outside of the compendium items listed above must be discussed with me before we agree together to allow it within the game. If you have any specific character requests, please discuss them with me. A selection of pre-generated characters is also available.

Homebrew rules

Any homebrew rules will be discussed at session 0 and adopted with the consent of the players.

Safety
How Oginme creates a safe table

Session 0 will cover the table rules, campaign outline and warnings, lines and veils, before getting into character creation and any further questions. X, N, O cards are available during game play to halt the activity so we can rewind and discuss or replay with a change to avoid any sensitive issues. After the game, I am around on the discord server for a debrief and discussion of game play, issues, wishes and stars, and potential direction for the next session. Outside of the game, I make myself available to discuss any issues which you may have and come to a suitable change or compromise to situations which need to be addressed.
