About me
I didn't find tabletop RPGs until later in life, I knew about them and was always intrigued - I just never had the access. But I always enjoyed telling stories, and my imagination would always run rampant - something likely attributed to my mental health. I was diagnosed early on with generalized anxiety and depression, which only further limited my access to tables and the enjoyment of the game. Decades later into my late thirties, after going through college for mental health and addictions and challenging some of my fears and misconceptions (most expensive therapy ever!), YouTube channels like Acquisitions Incorporated, C-Team, and Dimension 20 inspired me. I found a local game that fit my schedule and immediately fell in love with the medium, and after a few years I took my turn as a host and that love boiled over into a passion. I started hosting online for friends using Roll20, but my constant pursuit for increased visuals, operation, and overall production brought me to FoundryVTT. I love that I can combine my focus on research and narrative development with the stunning automation provided by the platform, and my players always seem delighted (or terrified) by the scenes I've put forward. Similarly, I've always found my delight in developing rich stories with those players, coordinating events and backstories to give them a voice in the world and build it into their playground. I have never had to shout "I'm not crying, you're crying" so many times.

Creating your character
When you join you will be provided with access to our group's Discord and the .pdf resource to begin character creation - we'll formalize everything during Session 0. - Stats can be selected with point buy. - The only backgrounds we are using are the Epic Backgrounds from the core Raiders text (these give you a direct connection to the story, quests, and rewards) - I encourage you to use the player races and classes present in the Raiders Player Guide. If you want to deviate from this, please let me know so we can discuss it, but I would like to strike the gritty, Viking fantasy.
We will encourage using the core module 'Raiders of the Serpent Sea' for this module. It's a very setting-specific and grounded module, we're going for a semi-serious tone. Some races/classes will be excluded due to the setting: any non-machine, non-PHB race is allowable. The system also incorporates new and exciting races native to the realm which have been implemented directly into Foundry. All backgrounds will be selected from the remaining Epic Backgrounds, and currently available are: The Bonded (your fate is linked to another; perhaps a sibling, a rival, or a trusted friend) The Royal Heir (your family once ruled a wealthy kingdom, but raiders invaded and took your into slavery - now you are a fierce raider yourself, and vengeance is on the horizon...) The Stranger This module includes systems for large-scale combats. We use the Sidekick ruleset to allow for more detailed 'crew'.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Because we run our audio through Discord you will need to have the software downloaded, along with a working microphone. Webcam is optional. You will need a decent internet connection and working PC. It would be a good idea to (loosely) review the Raiders Player Guide, but this is not a requirement. The book covers things you would learn organically, so it can always be used as a reference. You will need a ForgeVTT account (free!) at the following link: https://forge-vtt.com/account

How 8BitRonin creates a safe table
The content for this game is mature. There will be no overt sexual content (fade to black) or sexual violence, there will be violence, blood, and a fair amount of non-gratuitous foul language. Given the social landscape of the setting and the keeping of slaves (thralls) there will be no implied rape, sexual assault, or gratuitous cruelty. There will be a discussion about thralls during Session 0. As long as you have the urge to play? You're more than welcome. Anything I can accommodate I am 100% willing to discuss and implement, but you have the responsibility of bringing it to my attention. I want to ensure that you have a comfortable and fulfilling experience. - Session 0: Discord allows us to start planning as soon as you enter the chat! But there will be a formal session 0 for introductions, character creation, and table rules. This will be a free session, and depending on time we usually sneak in some roleplay fun! - Lines and Veils: Please provide me with your lines and veils so I can tune the adventure, similarly I will set those as table rules. - Luxton Technique Discussion: We'll take some time during Session 0 to discuss the realities of trauma and triggers. I think this is a beneficial conversation for everyone - it helps us to get to know each other's limits and fashion the surroundings in kind. If you are disruptive, disrespectful, or otherwise damaging to the experience of other players or myself, you will be asked to modify the behavior or leave the campaign. This is a game of collaboration meant for enjoyment - I aim to preserve that.
