The Runelord Trilogy in PF2! [BEGINNER FRIENDLY!]

The Runelord Trilogy in PF2! [BEGINNER FRIENDLY!]

Pathfinder 2e | Campaign

About the adventure

In the sleepy coastal town of Sandpoint, evil is brewing. An attack by crazed goblins during the annual Swallowtail Festival quickly turns into something more ominous as the shadows of a dark past come back to haunt the town—and perhaps all of Varisia. Can the heroes stop the awakening of a legendary runelord and keep him from reclaiming his lost kingdom of greed? Hello! My name is Travis, and I want to run this legendary adventure for the second time! This game has horror-lite elements to it, which means horrific things happen, but it is not the theme of the campaign. You will notice there are a lot of tags for content warnings because of these elements that play out through the six adventures of the adventure path. They do not occur all at once, and but they come up over the course of the campaign. We begin our first session during the Swallowtail Festival in Varisia. PF2 now calls these places the Saga Lands if you have your Core Rulebook handy! Here, the wild is untamed, and the region has been built on the skeleton of an ancient civilization called Thassilon. Today in Golarion, the nation has reprised itself, but, this story takes place in 4707 AR, eleven years before New Thassilon was founded. This campaign begins the tale of their reawakening, and stopping the most selfish of the Runelords. The Tyrant of Greed.

This is after my first session with Travis: So far, so good. Solid rules knowledge, fully prepared despite getting further along in the story than he'd expected, and worked with me off-line to integrate my character. These are all good marks, so yeah; so far, so good.

Travis is running us through Rise of the Runelords and I’m constantly impressed. He knows the material inside and out, is very knowledgeable with the rules, and is incredible at coming up with things on the fly. Highly recommend!

Travis is a great choice for anyone looking for a GM. Knows the rules, keeps the game moving, and keeps it fun.

Travis took Waterdeep Dragonheist, a familiar setting/adventure, and turned it on it's head in the best of ways. Man essentially runs two campaigns, one for the party, and one for the villains, who are all controlled by players. This has lead to some of the most dynamic D&D play I've ever been a part of. Additionally, while I wasn't in the party from the very beginning, he's been very good at working my character into the party. He's quick to react and keep the campaign moving forward no matter what decision we make. 10/10 would recommend.

We have a blast playing Travis's game. His villains are creative and interesting, the story is personal and engaging, and the world seems lived-in and alive. He's a long-time game master, which shows in the level of detail he puts into his game.

The game that Travis hosts is amazing. The way that he roleplays the world makes it feel alive and reactionary. As a party any big moves that we have made consequences, sometimes good, sometimes bad. But always entertaining. He is also great at making all players feel included and that their characters are interwoven into the story. He worked alongside each player to create a backstory that fit into the city of Waterdeep. I could say alot more amazing things about this DM but I don't think I can fully do him and his skills justice. Just play one of his games, you truly won't regret it. :)

How to prepare

I will be using both my microphone and my webcam. However, all that is required for my players to play is a Discord account and a microphone to to speak through. Foundry does not require an account to use except for the one with the license (like myself), I just send you my address, and you will be able to link into my game. Easy peezy.

What I provide

I have downloaded the Rise of the Runelords (PF2) conversion, as well as searched the web for maps that look decent for everyone to play on. I have also read through and played through Rise of the Runelords before when I converted it into Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition. Therefore, the story is still familiar to me, and I ma excited to run it again for a host of new players!

Gameplay details

Everything related to safety tools for a more mature game, such as this one, can be discussed without judgement in the Discord. Not everyone is comfortable saying what they feel out loud. Despite the tags I have placed on the game for content warnings, all of those tags are elements, and not necessarily highlights or moments which exist throughout the campaign, but only for some of it here and there.

How will character creation work

Build a character on Pathbuilder, once we have enough players, we can use the Pathmuncher Foundry Module to transfer your character over into Foundry. We will be using the Free Archetype alternative rule, which just means you'll get a feat for a dedication every other level, but we'll take care of that when we get to that point.
