As a Pro GM, I have high standards for my own relaxation and entertainment. I was VERY impressed by his presentation and professionalism, and absolutely hooked by the vivid descriptions. Definitely suits my style, which favors telling awesome stories about epic players doing awesome things. I also wish to compliment his inclusiveness, and can say I genuinely learned some GMing techniques for my own tables.
"Dnd for theater kids" is one of the best summaries I've seen of this, but this doesn't mean you can't have fun if you aren't an actor. This is a role-play heavy, narrative first system where the mechanics will help you become a better role-player and a better GM. If you are looking to start out or branch into something with more modern design and a cinematic feel, don't hesitate. When your first combo attack with your ally annihilates the target in a scene of glory and your whole table goes wild, you'll know why I sent you.
As a ProGm, my standards are fairly high for where I spend my own money for games. I was immediately impressed, learned new safety techniques for my own games, and got to feel creatively fulfilled as a player for a change. Watching her introduce newer players to Daggerheart instead of the ampersand game gave me great joy, as more people need to find the fun in smaller indie games.
The industry standard, this game is the most popular, but not the best I've played. An excellent introduction to the hobby, I personally feel sad about the fact that many player's TTRPG hobby begins and ends with this game, when so many other systems have so much more to say. Too many people bend over backwards trying to make this system do some things poorly that other systems do smoothly- homebrew is not always the answer.
