About F Young
I've been gaming and running games for over thirty years, and been a professional freelancer and indie designer for over twenty. (Sentences like this sometimes makes one question their life choices.) I also spent almost ten years teaching English as a second or foreign language from kindergartners to conversation seeking adults as well as for those who had professional needs. Classroom management is a little easier than herding cats, and that's just a little easier than GMing strangers, and I've got the chops for all three. (Ask me for pictures of my cats.) I'm a lover of all the wildest indie games out there, and I've written for a bunch of traditional games you know and love. Hit me up, whatever game you love, I might be able to run it for you. If you want an idea of how I run my own game, #iHunt, here's an actual play with the AMAZING crew of the Critshow! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rb9QudaBHls Hit me up, and let's get you gaming!

I became a GM because
I'm a writer, teacher, and game designer (not necessarily in that order). GMing is the perfect intersection of those three callings, and I find it to be deeply fulfilling.
My favorite shows/movies are
I love horror and sci fi movies of many stripes, but I ESPECIALLY love ones that other people might call, "bad" or "terrible!" I love the sheer audacity of making art without letting money (or talent) get in the way. If the monster is basically a wet puppet, I probably love it.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Writing spooky/sad ghost stories, designing games with my partner that have strong themes and clear ethics, and raising four beautiful kids. Kind of a charmed life when you lay it out like that.
How F Young runs games
I'm here to be the biggest fan of your characters. I'm the. director on the TV show of your character's lives and I want the lighting perfect, the camera perfect, the scripted bits are flawless and your improv unforgettable! I'm also a designer and teacher, so if it doesn't work in a game, I'm gonna fix it on the fly (or as fast as reasonable.) And if you don't know how to do it and it can be done, I'm gonna teach you how to do it! You tell us how transparent you want me to be with all that too. Can I GM and teach you how to GM at the same time? Let's find out together!

I deal with rules issues by...
clinging to the side of the rocket ship (the session/game) fixing the broken wing with a welding torch and a prayer. Probably screaming. Which is to say I am a confident and capable designer and if I haven't played a game, I've played its cousin, so I know a lot of ways to fix a problem.
If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...
Depends? Karthrine Bigalow: A woman director and I LOVE Point Break. For tight cuts, action, dry comedy and story-building call-backs: Edger Wright. Beauty in the most in the most grotesque: Clive Barker. Ridley Scott when we touch how big and uncaring space/eternity.
Rules are...
The foundation on which we build a story. The scaffolding to inspire character choices. The limitations that are set down to challenge and breed creativity. (Yep!) They're tools. It is a poor craftsman who blames his tools. But a lesser craftsman who uses the wrong tool for the job.
F Young's ideal table
I love learners. I love explores. I love impov. I love the curious. I love system masters and wanna-be system masters. I love people who say "system doesn't matter." I think those things can exist simultaneously at the table. Let's be curious. Let's be compassionate. Let's be larger than life. Above all, I love players who are fans of the table, of each other.

I love it when a player
makes big choices and tries something. I love thoughtful shenanigans and the negotiation that comes with them. I love creativity.
My perfect party mix is
not all the same style of player. I don't need 5 die-hard role-players, or 6 perfectly studied rules masters. I love a mix of different play styles as long as the players can respect and admire each other's style! Like a basketball team who knows who to throw the ball to under what situations.
