About me

I started my TTRPG journey in 2023 but I've been a huge fan of CRPGs since my high school days. My irl friend group and I had three campaigns going when we started playing but, due to various situations, the campaign that I'm the DM of became the most popular and most played in our group while the other games are put on hold indefinitely. While I enjoy the DM role, I really miss being a player as well and that's what brought me here to see if I can find new people and campaigns that I'll be able to jive with.

The worst thing about Camerox as a GM is their inflexibility regarding player characters. What I mean by this is he'll have enemies shut you down entirely in combat scenarios where you then feel like your turns were wasted and you really don't have many choices to make in upcoming turns. While it may not be intentional, there were two separate occasions that my player character took the brunt of everything an enemy can do and when the enemy targets another player, I noticed the enemies using less effective actions than they did against my character. Not saying I was intentionally targeted, but it certainly left me feeling deflated with my position while I watched as other players succeed once the enemies fully unloaded onto me. I think this is a failing on the DM's part that they could not set up a situation where all players feel involved in the group's success. It happened to another player in a one shot (in lieu of the normal game) where they made a fire-based sorcerer that was entirely invalidated due to the enemies being immune to fire. But Camerox didn't want or think about adapting the enemies on the fly, instead the player wanted to end their involvement in the one shot early and Camerox just accepted that as the solution (we ended up ending the session for everyone). For being typically higher-priced than I would say the average DM on Startplaying but with a similar quality, I would expect a better solution to the issue. And when players feel upset about these types of situation, Camerox never addresses the issue until a player explicitly has to bring it up (typically at the end of the session). This creates an uncomfortable atmosphere for the remainder of the sessions. Overall, I just don't think the value proposition is there for Camerox as a DM, and I would recommend other DMs at cheaper prices which I've seen provide similar or better values on their services.

Lex is an incredible DM. Pure and simple. He's charismatic, a wonderful storyteller, and always open to player input and creative solutions. He also knows how to keep the story flowing, which I find is one of the most important things for a DM to know. You'll never find your party in long awkward pauses or with no idea how to proceed when you're playing with Lex. Five stars is the max rating on Startplaying, I would give Lex a higher rating if I could!

Jon is a wonderful GM. He's a great storytelling and knows how to create an inviting atmosphere for those playing with him for the first time. He's very mindful of player decisions and choices, and I certainly felt our party's accomplishments had meaning in the broader story and world. And as a paid GM, I have to give Jon props for knowing when to keep the pace moving. I've played with paid GMs before that often leave the players in awkward silence as we do our best to roleplay, but that has never been an issue with Jon in my experience. Overall, I highly recommend signing up for a game with Jon whether you're a new player or old! I'm certainly looking forward to my next campaign with him.

I only got to play with Nioret for a short while, but I must commend him for being an excellent DM from what I've experienced. Great storytelling and voices! Fun combat that pulls no punches and really expects you to think wisely. Above all, and I really think this is key to a great paid DM, is that he has the charisma and intuition to keep the game flowing! Do yourself a favor and sign up for a game with Nioret.

I only got to play in Caio's campaign for a short while due to scheduling changes but, from what I've experienced, I can say he is a wonderful, imaginative, and descriptive GM who allows players to get as creative as possible in the way they create and present their characters in his worlds. He is very chill and loves to laugh along with the party when wacky stuff goes down but also knows how to create a serious scene. Most importantly, he's patient with newcomers and loves to integrate characters' backstories into the world no matter how much or how little you write, and he'll make the effort even if you join a session at the very last minute. Totally recommended!
