About Gamersaurus

Hey there! I'm Gamersaurus Lex, a longtime player and GM who owned a local game store for about a decade. I am a happy-go-lucky extrovert that spent the last decade of his life running a FLGS and professionally nerding out with gamers of every age and disposition. I love running games with lots of excitement, fully realized NPCs, and a true open sandbox approach, even when we're running an established module. You want to ignore the module's storyline and chart your own course? I will make it happen! Prefer to play in one of my homebrew campaigns set in the Moonsea Region of the Forgotten Realms? Buckle up, you're in for a wild ride! I have decades of experience introducing new players to the hobby, at my game store, conventions, and at my home table, so you couldn't be in better hands if you're just starting out with TTRPGs or if you're switching systems. I have been a pro GM for about 20 years, and only recently started offering my services online with StartPlaying. Veterans will enjoy my games, too, especially with all the Easter eggs that pop up in every session. I tend to run D&D 5e, Pathfinder 2e, and Starfinder these days, but I have plenty of recent experience with 3.x, Savage Worlds, GURPS, and the many varieties of the Cypher System. And, let's be honest, given time to prepare, I can run any system if there is a group that really wants that system.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

storyteller, creative, worldbuilder. Don't get me wrong, I love the *game* aspects of TTRPGs, but the reason I focus on this and not, say, boardgames is because I get excited about the characters (PCs and NPCs), their motivations, and how their decisions will impact the world.

How Gamersaurus runs games

I am an actor and a storyteller who focuses on providing fun, exciting NPCs, engaging villains, and dramatic story structure. I provide a healthy combination of social interaction, exploration, and combat, and if we play in a sustained campaign, I always draw on my players' ideas for their characters' back-stories. I try to focus on having fun and staying relaxed, while also delivering an immersive experience. Story is key, and rule systems come second (I don't ignore the rules, but I try to find a way to let my players do the thing they want to do). I encourage my players to engage in as much character development and plot as they like and I provide in-game rewards for doing so. I have zero problem with power-gamers or min-maxers (we all have our own approach to the game!), so don't worry if you are not a drama club type of player; you will be richly rewarded for your efforts! Combat in my games is challenging, and sometimes deadly. Character death is often possible, and always dramatic! I try to create a world in which negotiation, running away, or even surrendering are valid (and sometimes optimal) strategies when presented with combat. I run sandbox games where you will be free to explore towns, cities, and regions without being railroaded into a predetermined adventure path (even when running an actual published adventure). I am comfortable with a diverse range of players, personalities, and backgrounds. I worked in retail (starting at Disney as a teenager) and the food and beverage industries for decades, which is another way of saying I get along great with people no matter what they believe or how or where they live. I am respectful of others and run a safe and accepting table where all are welcome and supported.

I deal with rules issues by...

making a spot determination at the table (to keep the game moving) and then inviting further discussion on Discord after the session. I'm not one of those DMs with quasi-religious views on this or that rule, and I love it when players have ideas for interpreting a rule or even adding a house rule.

My games focus on...

fun and exciting stories with complex, interesting characters in fully fleshed-out worlds where decisions have real consequences. Even when running a module or Adventure Path, my games are an open sandbox where the story is driven by player agency. I love changing the story based on player choices.

When it comes to voices

I have spent a lot of time playing to audiences. I've been an actor, a storyteller, a college professor, and (weirdly) a litigator. I do a variety of voices and dialects, but I'm no Matt Mercer (who is?). Often, I focus on one or two defining verbal attributes to distinguish a character.
