D'Antonio

D'Antonio is a fantastic GM, great at explaining the mechanics of new games and always generous with beginners. You always feel like you have room to be creative while adhering to the mechanics of the game. GM also uses excellent backdrops for his games and makes excellent maps. He also knows the tools he uses well and is very good at explaining how to use them (I really like Alchemy now!). I always have a great time during D'Antonio's games and wholeheartedly recommend him as a GM.

Had a great time with Calvin! Great storyteller, uses technology well and crafts balanced but challenging combat rounds. A lot of people playing were from other campaigns he's run, which says a lot about his ability to retain players.

Lovely DM who can craft a nice, creepy story while still feeling fun and safe. Darren was kind enough to let me play a lawful evil cleric/paladin and I had so much fun. He also uses physical maps and theatre of the mind, which I love.

Frederik is a fantastic DM! I played my 5th game ever with Frederik and had a fabulous time. He combined static images and theatre of the mind (my preference) to build a rich environment that was welcoming to a newer player. He structured the gameplay into two sections, the first being aimed at investigation, and the second more exploration and combat based, with a break in between. We were able to dive right in and learn about the necessary mechanics as they came up - which is a great structure for someone who is still learning. One thing I really enjoyed was that Frederik never fed us answers. His NPCs provide information in a way that builds a more comprehensive picture while providing conflicting information. Each character has their own unique perspective and set of biases. It’s up to the player to consider what the true story might be, if there even is one. We were given a lot of room to decide how we'd approach the session and as a result, we received a conclusion that was funny, a little sad, but also heartwarming. I felt like we’d really earned our mostly happy ending. It was incredibly satisfying. Frederik also let the game go for as long as it needed to. I think it can be really hard to fit a one-shot game into two or three hours when you’re also working with novices (that’s been an issue when I tried a few sessions at my local pub). Frederik’s games have a longer run time than other games on StartPlaying, and that gets around this issue. Instead of rushing, we were able to take our time, really experience the world, and leave knowing we’d done everything we wanted to do without compromise. I really appreciated that approach and it was a big draw for me. Big thanks to Frederik – I had a fantastic time and I hope I can play another game with him again, time zones permitting!

Dylan was fantastic. I've had some false starts with DnD as a new player and Dylan was really understanding and created a fun and supportive environment. They created some great puzzles, were really supportive of RP and supported the players to make creative choices. They made me want to get into DnD again and I couldn't be more thankful.
