About Frederik Forger

God does not play dice with the universe. But you certainly can! Cleave a path of destruction through your enemies. Hold powerful magic in the palm of your hand. Seduce a dragon if that’s what floats your boat. Now do it all while having a 5% chance of failing or succeeding spectacularly. If you’ve been around pop culture lately, you will have noticed that Dungeons & Dragons has risen in popularity over the past couple of years and is becoming more and more mainstream. Playgroups like Critical Role, Acquisitions Inc. and many others like them have made the game more widespread and accessible to new players. So if you and a couple of friends are interested in playing D&D but you have no idea where and how to start or you don’t want to spend money without knowing if D&D is a game for you, then you’re in luck. I’ll be happy to teach and guide you through the mechanics of the game and play an introductory one-shot adventure so that you can get a feel for it. And perhaps more if you end up liking it enough to continue down the path of adventure. I have been in the D&D business as both a DM and player since 2011, starting with 4th edition before switching over to 5th edition (the current and most popular version) in 2014. This has given me enough perspective to know what my good qualities as a DM are and the not-so-good ones. So if you can get 2 to 6 people together and you want to give D&D a try with someone experienced showing you the ropes, you can always contact me and we’ll work something out.

How Frederik Forger runs games

I love a healthy mixture of all three aspects: exploration, combat and social encounters. I can provide more of one aspect if the group is more inclined towards one but experience had taught me that most people enjoy a little bit of everything. Depending on the people involved, every aspect can be as deep or light as per preference. Here are some of my strong points as a DM and also a less strong one. PRO 1) I am very beginner friendly. I have introduced many people new to TTRPG to D&D and know the common pitfalls to avoid and facets to highlight to ensure a low stakes introduction tailored the group. 2) Comedy: D&D is a game played with friends so comedy tends to be a natural element of the whole experience, one that has become second nature to me. 3) Improv: the DM’s plan never survives first contact with the players so I have become very adapt at rolling with the punches and adapting/making things up on the fly. 4) Rules as guidelines: D&D is a narrative experience and strict, rigid adherence to the rules tends to restrict player agency. I therefore encourage and reward out-of-the-box thinking, creative interpretations and bending the rules towards Rule of Cool and Rule of Fun. (bending the rules is key here, not flagrantly abusing loopholes or semantics) 5) I have an academic background in theatre, film and literature and a lifelong passion for stories and pop culture in general so a game of D&D can be tailored to be whatever you want, going from classic fantasy adventure to court intrigue to cosmic horror and what have you. 6) I own enough dice and everything D&D fifth edition related so the only thing you’ll have to bring is pen, paper and enthusiasm. CON 1) I can’t do voices. At least not many distinct ones. Not that this is a problem per se but many (new) players are under the impression that doing voices is required of the DM. (most likely a result of Critical Role’s popularity, where D&D is played by professional voice actors)
