When I first applied to join Ry's game I was delighted. The way he runs his table is phenomenal. He's worked with the entire party to draw us into the story individually and as we've played I've only been more impressed with his style. Rule of cool is the main rule, he has incredible enthusiasm for storytelling and does a great deal to create a positive inclusive environment for his players.
I have been playing in Meg's game Hell's Hoard for months now and I have enjoyed every session of it. I was more familiar with D&D 5e initially but Meg was really patient and helpful as I got used to the new system, even taking a bit of extra time to help me understand how the combat system, action economy and such works here. Hint 5e players try it, its GOOD. As for her style? That's my favorite part honestly. - Heavily detailed and complex storylines and NPCs, a obviously intricate and lovingly crafted homebrew world. She uses both maps and beautifully woven verbal descriptions to set the mood and listens to her players when they ask questions or seek to go a little off the beaten path. - She strikes a balance, keeping the story moving without making it feel rigid or linear. Even during story arcs for specific character she makes sure to draw in the other characters in some ways actively engaging ALL the players and their characters. And thats one of the best parts I think. She weaves other characters into parts of your characters backstorys in ways that seem subtle but fit and draw the whole party along for the ride, everyone being naturally interconnected into different parts of the story so they are motivated naturally to work together. Meg is a DM with attention to detail and a passion for it. She definitely strikes me as a rule of cool DM with a heavy focus on immersion and a love of story telling. I fully and wholeheartedly recommend her for both new players and those who are looking for an all human inclusive DM with a talent for well balanced high adventure TTRPG game. (Yes, she does combat well too and keeps it flowing and balanced but the player is more interested in highlighting the other parts, admittedly. 😅)
Shadow is a very talented DM, an excellent story teller who knows the rules but whose laid back enough to bend things to suit the theme, game and the characters/players he's working with. He's good at splitting attention between his players so we all get attention. His descriptiveness in his posts is off the charts, the horror descriptions especially stand out to me. He's also very committed to being responsive and even with a whole server full of games he stays on top of us. As someone who loves the slightly more freeform Play by Post written format and an inclusive environment, I have to give him and his community a shout out. The only thing I would change is maybe, offering pathfinder 2e or other systems in some games but thats more a personal wish than anything serious.
