I've been playing with Mike for 100 sessions now. We've had our ups and downs, our good and bad moments—the amazing ones and the downright ridiculous ideas. He's a good GM. He loves his stories, his narrative threads. He's highly supportive of roleplay and more than willing to work with you on your character ideas. But he's not perfect. He makes mistakes like we all do. He doesn't handle overly complicated systems too well, and misunderstandings happen here and there. But he tries, and that makes him as good as gold in my eyes. Other GMs give half-hearted attempts, treat this stuff as just a job, or charge ridiculous amounts. He doesn’t. So I would recommend giving him a try. But to those who are reading this, I’m talking to you now. Mike can’t make gold out of nothing for your characters. He can’t read your mind. And he can’t shape a story to your liking without knowing what you like. So talk to him. Be honest. Share your character ideas. Discuss them. Sure, this is a paid experience, but it’s also a cooperative one. Don’t treat it as if you’re the only main character. If you feel uncomfortable with something, don’t be afraid to speak up. And if you don’t like the game you’re in, it’s okay to leave—nothing’s wrong with that. Just don’t forget to send a message. At the end of the day, we’re all just a bunch of weirdos staring at computer screens or tablets, pretending to be wizards, barbarians, and super space soldiers. And sometimes, we forget to communicate properly.
