J'ohn clearly puts a ton of work into preparing his sessions, and it really shows. The maps, music, sound effects, and Foundry setup are all excellent, and he does a great job setting the mood. He knows the material well and is able to roll with whatever the players throw at him without missing a beat.
I’ve played in three different campaigns with McLoyf, Drakkenheim, Waterdeep, and Tomb of Annihilation. The fact that I keep signing up for his games probably says it all. He knows the rules extremely well, but he also knows when to be flexible if it makes the game more fun. His rulings are consistent, combat is challenging without feeling unfair, and he gives players plenty of room to try weird ideas and actually influence the story. One of his biggest strengths is his NPCs. They feel distinct, memorable, and like they actually have their own motivations. He’s also great at picking up on the things the players care about and weaving them back into the campaign. Most importantly, his games don’t feel interchangeable. Waterdeep feels completely different from ToA, and both felt different from Drakkenheim. He puts a lot of work into the world, the atmosphere, and the characters, and it shows. I’d absolutely recommend McLoyf to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, creative DM who runs
Sebastian did a great job making the one-shot feel atmospheric and character-driven without ever letting the pacing drag. The combat was interesting and varied, and the boss fight in particular had fun phase changes that made it feel more dynamic than just standing around trading damage. The roleplay and tone landed really well, and it was clear he was willing to work with character concepts and rulings in a way that kept things fun and moving. I had a great time and would happily play at his table again.
Molly is a great DM. She knows the rules really well and generally runs things RAW. However she also knows when bending a rule a little will make for a better story moment or a more memorable scene. She puts a ton of effort into her games, especially the TaleSpire maps, and she’s great at rolling with whatever weird direction the party goes. It always feels like our choices actually matter, and she clearly cares about everyone at the table having fun.
Evan is exceptional at creating a campaign that feels alive and collaborative. He keeps every player engaged, weaving our backstories seamlessly into the main plot so that our characters truly matter. When we go off the rails and chase wild ideas, Evan rolls with it, turning our chaos into memorable story moments. Then, when it's time to get back to the main story, Evan guides us smoothly back to the central narrative without it feeling forced. Evan is the perfect DM for groups who value agency and story depth.
