How Dylan - Stolen Velvet runs games
I focus on storytelling and creating rich, character-driven narratives where players have agency to shape the world around them. My NPCs are memorable and dynamic, bringing depth to the stories we tell together. Combat, roleplay, and exploration are all on the table, but I prioritize what excites the players most. The “rule of cool” guides my approach to mechanics, ensuring a fun and flexible experience. Whether you’re a newcomer or a veteran, I’ll make sure your character has the spotlight in a world that responds to your every decision.

I deal with rules issues by...
I do my best to look it up within the first 60 secs. If I cannot, I make a ruling then and there and reserve the right to look it up when I have more time and potentially make a better ruling when the situation arises in the future.
My games focus on...
The human(oid) experience. I want my games to help players discover something about themself, even if its small or even in a lighthearted narrative. I reward creative problem-solving and flavorful descriptions, even if they break my plan completely.
Rules are...
Amazing guidelines, and 80% of the time I would even say they are logical, but I never treat the rules as gospel. I look at every scenario through a logical, scientific lens and base compare my rulings to the official rules and usually, they line up.
Dylan - Stolen Velvet's ideal table
At my table, the story is shaped by your choices. I run player-driven games where your character’s goals matter, and I’m here to help you shine, whether you’re a seasoned roleplayer or brand new to D&D. You can expect a warm, welcoming environment where creativity and teamwork are encouraged, and everyone has a chance to contribute. The vibe is friendly and focused. We will laugh a lot, get excited about big moments, and dive into meaningful character scenes while keeping the game moving. I love blending rich roleplay with dynamic combat and exploration, and I use high-quality maps, soundscapes, and visuals to bring the world to life. If you like having a say in how your adventure unfolds and you enjoy collaborative storytelling with a DM who’s here to support your fun, you will fit in perfectly at my table.

I am for a vibe that's...
"Yes, and..." I will run with whatever you give me and I love when players do the same. That's what collaborative storytelling is all about.
I think metagaming...
Detracts from a great story, but its also inevitable unless every single player is a veteran of the hobby, and that's just not fair to expect. I'll call it out if I see it happen, but only if it is actively hurting the story.
I think min/maxing...
is great! As long as it makes sense with the story. Great warriors who spend lots of time focusing on training and conditioning will certainly know how best to output maximum damage, but if you bring in a Gloomstalker/Assassin/Battlemaster, you better have a good narrative reason for that build.
