My first time trying out Candela Obscura, and the GM explained very well what all the symbols and marks meant on my character sheet. The one-shot adventure was creepy, and a great starting point for the world of Candela Obscura.

The use of maps and visual aids allowed me to delve myself into the story's lore and become invested in it. The GM was kind enough to allow the game to happen despite myself being the only player to show up. They also reminded me of what skills and spells I was using so that I didn't feel as if I was going to be stuck.

The GM should have kept the players focused so that we all could have participated in a story. My session felt overtaken by silly roleplaying that did not provide any context to the story or any goal to achieve. I appreciate that the GM tried to include me in roleplaying, but it was only after 2 hours had passed that they remembered I was there, and the opportunity provided was lackluster. By the time we got to combat, it was way past the halfway timing of the session. I think the GM could have added extra encounters to keep us alert since we were sailing on the sea (sirens, sea creatures, facing a storm, etc.).

Even though I was the only player in the game, the GM played the game and allowed me to play. They included a PC that followed and assisted me in my game. I left with new spells and a new item, and a possible GM for future games.

The GM took the time to explain how the game is played and always allowed us to try anything.
