Vhaidara is an excellent GM. The vibe you hope for at tables is everyone laughing and having fun. I have now played several games with her and that has been the overwhelming vibe. Yes we are role playing, but we are having fun. If you want that serious game where everything is taken seriously, then I don't want to play with you. TTRPG is a form of play and it is supposed to be fun. You can feel all sorts of ways and do all sorts of things but if your not having fun, then why are you playing. Every session with Vhaidara has been filled with giggles and laughs according to lines and antics that those playing pull. I create interesting characters and play them. Vhaidara not only worked with that but created a deeper hook into the game. She also had rule changes for what she felt was not working in PF2E. No system is perfect and identifying issues and addressing them are the signs of a GM that not only knows the rules, but is trying to adjust them for a better experience. In the latest session I played with her, I watched her teach a 5E player how to play PF2E and how the action economy was vastly different. She did it calmly and with grace, explaining the various options that player had while they played and giving them a chance to change their actions based on their new understanding of the rules. This is a an excellent way to introduce new players to a new system and let them have a good time. I think a session with her is worth the money you spend. I think that is the highest recommendation I can give someone on this app.
Phil is not a GM for everyone. This is not a game where 5 mages can walk in and easily lay waste to all challenges. You will need a balanced party. You will need to work together. Phil does allows the game to be hard. This means you will absolutely need to work with the other players and can't just go off and do your own thing. If you are ready to be a team player and think about how you play, then Phil is the right GM for you.
I am in a game with Fiona and have Josh as a GM. We also have another player who is playing an Orc Champion. This character is a Redeemer and a great scene developed as he tried to heal a monster to give her a chance at redemption. This got into a philosophical argument after the battle with Fiona trying to point out that in battle you have to have clear lines so that we can progress forward and that death of another is acceptable. I started to argue that what was being offered was not redemption but enslavement. I am playing an evil character and working with the party. We have started to develop a chemistry as I will take advantage of the good characters being good to get what I want and giving them an out they will appreciate. Like letting a murder off because he gave me something to prove he is dead for the 150 gold bounty while keying on the redemption of the murderer for the Champion. My motivation was the money and I got backup from the Champion because of the redemption. We are all playing roles within a party and working well together. It has been a great deal of fun.
She will make you feel safe. Her rules are clear from the outset and when you make mistakes she sets those guideposts and helps you keep others safe as well. For those with real fears of playing in a group I can think of no better GM that I have played with than Penny. You will be welcome at her table and she will keep you absolutely safe. Penny is the right GM for your first time playing and will allow you to really grow as a player at her table.
The truth here is that Jeff is an excellent GM with a tight group around him. I have a feeling that it will be difficult for many to find games with him because he allows for an excellent atmosphere for his players. Those players are going to keep coming back to play with him. If you have a chance play with him and I am sure you will become part of the group who looks to play with him again. That is high praise for any GM.
