Actions speak louder than words and I am currently playing in TWO of Mega's mini-campaigns at the same time! Need I say more?! Oh, I do have to? OK, well the dude is intelligent, fast thinking, creative, a great roleplayer - who has created some really compelling NPCs in both campaigns - and, above all, is the kind and benevolent master of a very fun table. Can you not TPK us now, please, Mega? I'm sorry about the "We're really strolling through this dungeon pretty easily, aren't we?" quip. Really sorry! I'm enjoying the story too much for us all to die! As you can see, his dry sense of humour is infectious (I'm channeling it now and it has given me a rash). Recommended! Twice!
Mini may be new to StartPlaying but he is clearly an experienced, top-tier DM. It's rare to get a great creative storyteller who also cares about the rules and applying them fairly and who also plays his monsters like they mean business (he is also clearly a master of the VTT he uses and has Owlbear Rodeo set up extremely impressively). I played in a one-shot alongside some his regular campaign players (lovely people, Hi guys!) and it is obvious that they are having a blast and are in a very good, very safe pair of hands. Would thoroughly recommend!
Although new to StartPlaying, Fin is clearly an experienced DM and has a natural confidence that made me feel like I was in safe hands right from the start. Indeed, Fin's one-shot turned out to be an excellent piece of horror storytelling. At the end of the session I felt almost as devasted as my character was by the events that had taken place (I'd love to say more but spoilers!). A truly memorable adventure
Sam ran an exciting one-shot that had half of the party thinking they were going to die at some stage and even had me nearly tearing up at one particularly moving moment in the story. That doesn't happen often. But perhaps even more important than that, Sam is a DM who radiates calm and kindness, which is a lovely thing, especially if you are new to D&D or a little nervous about playing in a group (it's also great for experienced players of course!) Give him a try!
DarkSamuraiV is the type of DM who panics a little if his planned encounters don't go how he imagined they would go. He frequently complained that our randomly assembled party was too good and was 'fucking' his plans (and he particularly doesn't seem to like paladin auras and the bless spell helping with saving throws!) Having said that, his session wasn't too bad. Despite the complaining, he obviously tries hard and he writes his own scenarios which has got to count for something. I won't be returning but he may still be worth a try for other people. One thing I do hope is that he starts letting people join his discord server earlier than 2.5 hours before game time.
