I wanted to take some time to get to know Dylan before I ventured to leave a review of him. Not that I ever doubted his talents, but because I wanted what I had to say about him to come from a place of significant experience in the hope that it would be given the weight that such extensive experience is due. Dylan is the Digital DM, par excellence. Though I'm certain he would be just as great around a table, Dylan takes this more limited two-dimensional world of the online TTRPG that we inhabit and elevates it to a full sensory experience. As a DM and a storyteller, he brings his worlds to life - and not through overwrought room descriptions, but through NPCs that live and breathe. That kindly shop keep? She wants to know about your kids. That shifty fellow on the corner? He never heard of whatever you're looking for and he wouldn't tell you if he did - so move along before he splits your lip. That old man? His wife was the one you couldn't save and he wants to know why - damn it - why!? My friends and I found Dylan in a roundabout way and had the unmitigated gall to ask him to pick up the tattered remnants of another teller's story and make it his own so we could finish it. Ninety-nine out of a hundred DMs would have said no. Fewer still would have attacked the task with as much diligence and gusto as Dylan has. Thank you, Dylan. You'll never know how much that means to me.
I really enjoyed how the story felt like it immediately had stakes. Who and what we are in this world matters and that really felt like it was driven home by this opening. I'm really looking forward to see how the world continues to respond to the choices we make, and how it - in turn - molds us also.
I'm fortunate to be something of a veteran of D&D now, and getting off to a start with EpicCorey has been great. Everyone's excited to see where we go and he's been very accommodating of our plans for the game and for our characters. "I can make it work," is his favorite saying and he's shown it more than once.
