Malachi runs a great game. He puts a ton of effort into the campaign with neat options for note taking, world building, tracking character backstories and development. He's willing and able to roll with the goofy stuff players throw at him and makes the world feel alive with sound effects, voices, and descriptions. He is comfortable with the campaign material and the rules and makes all players feel welcome and comfortable.
I've only played a couple sessions with Eric V at this point but they've been great. He is very organized in his approach to getting people onboarded and introduced and sets the tone for the game and individual scenes very well. With maps, music, voices and narrative that really makes you feel immersed. The experience shows both in his ability to tell a story that is collaborative and shaped by the players and his ability to adjudicate to move things along when necessary, and make sure that everyone has an opportunity to be heard. So far, my favorite GM on SPG. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a well rounded experience.
Wyrd knows how to keep the pace of a game while still giving players the opportunity to have their cool moments or go off and discover more trouble. He provides a fun challenge which call for and reward player ingenuity and tactical combat/thinking. It can be difficult to run higher level content but Wyrd's experience shines here; through his planning, his understanding of the monsters, their tactics, and his willingness to handle character blunders bad roles, or the fact that a monster really is out to kill you, without kids gloves. He makes the NPCs and the world feel meaningful and alive and helps players flesh out backstories and links between characters to facilitate roleplay and bonds between party members and investment in the story. The music and sound effects add to the game without being overbearing or distracting and the mods for Roll20 help keep things organized, flowing and immersive.
Lexi provides a consistently immersive and complex story and setting. She allows for player creativity and outside of the box thinking while balancing it with an equally creative approach to the necessary structure, rules, and logic to keep a story moving in the desired direction. She is invested in her player's experiences and enjoyment of the game, is communicative, and takes feedback to heart. She wants to see the characters succeed but when it matters, is firm but fair. She's not afraid to take off the kids gloves and throw down in a tactical and potentially deadly combat or challenge your characters with a moral quandary. After playing a few more sessions of Curse of Strahd, I am doubling down on my review. Lexi creates a world that feels immersive, creepy when appropriate to the horror setting, and fills it with NPCs that make it feel believable and alive...or depressingly, horrifyingly, dead. I would recommend to anyone with thick skin and a taste for a gritty, unforgiving, horror game.
Had a great first session. I've heard things about this adventure which have kept me from playing it to this point, but based on the first session, the story telling and willingness to let the characters make crazy and sometimes terrible decisions and introduce consequences without kids gloves, it should be a pretty fun ride.
