Darren runs a great hybrid tabletop campaign online, using technology as a bridge over time and space to provide the feel of being more around a table rolling dice and telling stories. If you're looking for a game closer to the tabletop experience, with a much more technologically relaxed atmosphere that allows the game to flow at a pace reminiscent of sitting around a table with friends, and rolling dice, this is the table for you. I greatly appreciate when a DM empowers the player to roll their own dice, rather than use computer generated rolls. For me, the feel of the dice, and rolling them on my own feels much more satisfying and much closer to the true tabletop experience. As a result of the way that the DM uses maps as a tool for immersion, rather than the be all and end all of the adventure and combats, I feel much more in tune with the story as it unfolds before us.
Normally, I hold fast for a bit before sending reviews until I have a few sessions under my belt with a StartPlaying DM, but I'm not waiting here. Admiral's style of game management is superb. His atmosphere is immersive in the best ways, and he knows very well how to add flare to a campaign in ways that make sense to the game. In short, he's an idyllic mix of game referee and story facilitator, and I know already, after only one session, that I'm going to greatly enjoy his campaign as a result. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a well managed, well run game.
Dyer is an incredibly well prepared GM who fosters a fun gaming culture table experience. He is equal parts master of his craft, and exceptional tutor when rules explanations are needed. Old players, new players, anyone in between...all are welcomed to his table and will have a good time. Additional, post-campaign entry: Dyer consistently and superbly ran exceptional sessions for the players for the entirety of this campaign. His technical skills with the table top program (Foundry) made the story and game that much easier for us to interact with, and facilitated an exceptional experience. His ability to incorporate game related and story tension at the correct and necessary level was some of the best I've experienced in many years of gaming. His skills as a GM brought the best out of us as players, and fostered an environment where excitement for the next session remained throughout. As I said in the early sessions of this campaign, anyone joining his campaigns will have a good (Great really) time.
Anne is a genuinely grand DM who sets the stage for rapt character role play and rule of cool interactions with the story. She brings exceptional preparation with superb fantasy lore knowledge, combined with a deep knowledge of the rules to referee the game for us all to tell its story. In summary, she’s an idyllic GM.
This was my first session playing with Ryan, but I was immediately impressed by his very chill approach to game management. I really enjoy being at tables where the collaboration between player and DM/GM to facilitate and tell a cool story is the standard being set, and based on this experience today, it feels very much like that's what being at Ryan's table is all about. I really appreciated the music as well, as it set the proper tone for the respective moments that our characters were involved in. Ryan's weaving of the tale leading up to when our adventure began was very well done, and it really helped me to get into the feel of my character. At first glance, his campaign is very organized and well thought out. Overall, I very much hope to continue gaming with Ryan for the foreseeable future.
