I was in her Good Society Oneshot and it was hands down the best oneshot I've ever been in 10/10. It modified the rules slightly (in the best way) and it was better than cable in terms of drama and excitement. I had so much fun and look forward to playing more campaigns or oneshots with her in the future.
Aarlanng is an incredible Game Master who can build amazing and beautiful worlds with *extensive* depth, lore, and creativity. I've been privileged enough to have just finished playing my second session in one of his Eden campaigns, and I was just blown away with the care and attention to detail he put into the combat we just finished. Custom Stat Blocks, Combat Specifically Driven By the Plot, Brand New Mechanics (for both players and monsters!) on top of impactful and consistently meaningful interactions with NPCs, Aarlanng and his worlds make him the exemplar of, "Quality Over Quantity." I can't even get into the details of the world building as I'm sure I would eventually run out of characters, but it's simply phenomenal! I actually feel like I can track the lore, *and it makes sense.* Even independent of the existence of magic (or "Flux"), I can relate to the NPCs and conflicts due to how down to earth and real the NPCs feel and what their struggles are. So, if you love the rp aspect of TTRPGs and want to deeply explore your character's emotions and drives, Aarlanng is a GM who can make an impossibly large and absurdly mysterious thriving world still fully able crit you right in the feels every time you are able to peel back a layer of it. 15/10 Can't wait for my third session!
Simply incredible is the only way to describe my experiences at All Blue's table. It is a rare feat of talent to be able to hold 100+ NPCs (with their personalities, goals, relationships with each other and so on) in one's head, it is even rarer to possess the ability to weave them in and out of the story while maintaining a sense of scale in the world as a whole. Beyond the notes above, this guy's homebrew is insane in the best way. The devil fruit system challenges your sense of creativity and strategic prowess in a way the spells of 5e never could. It feels like every session I'm pulling of 200 IQ+ ideas to get us out of our lasted exercises in stupidity. If you often find yourself suggesting wild, insane, and somewhat absurd ideas to get the slimmest edge then this is the GM for you! On top of that he has an expert grasp on balance and is able to adjust pretty any other homebrew you may suggest to blend well with the content of the One Piece 5e system. I asked to use the Savant class from reddit and he quickly came up with adjustments and suggestions to bring it up to the power level of the homebrew classes & subclasses. Sometimes that might include a suggested multiclass, but he has more than enough diverse options to choose from. All in all, I am more hyped than I have been in an looooooong time and I am always excited to see what may come next!
I love a lot of things about her; but my fav thing by far is the complex personalities of her npcs. From just a look and a tone you get truly absorbed in the world. In the metropolitan magic campaign I was in she allowed me to really create a truly unique character and provided a vibrant world filled with incredible depth. At the same time, what it did not have was the standard poverty stricken gloom and doom most storytellers take with this genre. But that doesn’t mean the world doesn’t have its own problems, but scarcity and basic survival isn’t one of them. It is refreshing, sophisticated and nuanced while balancing a zany humor. I love Shawnee, I love this world, if you don’t sign up you and definitely missing out!
