About Chris Werner
Hi there! My name is Chris! I'm a twice transplanted German formerly living in the US and now moved to the United Kingdom. I've played one form of TTRPG or another for nearly two decades now. Starting originally with Dungeons and Dragons Fourth Edition and quickly expanding into other systems. From the Old Modern Age, and Vampire the Masquerade system to 'forgotten' favourites like Edge of Empire. With a particularly expertise in Pathfinder/Starfinder 2e and Call of Cthulu. For the last ten years me and a close group of friends have been running our own 'One-Shots' among each other. Taking different systems and adapting stories to fit into them. In this group I've dabbled in everything from 7th Sea to Blade in the Dark. This quickly helped me find my three absolute favourite systems, Blades, Call of Cthulu, and Genesys. Which is what I try to run most of my games in! I'm looking to run games that are player focused and story driven. Though I enjoy many pre-written adventures from Chaosium, Paizo, and other 3rd party mediums I'm a big fan of divergent story telling and letting Players expand the universe they're in.

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be
Goblin Quest - It's fun, quick and easy, plus we can establish goblin quests to do miserable chores. Shadow Dark - We can make it work, rocks for dice, basic stats in beach sand. We got this. Traveler - We may have to find palm leaves, but as long as one of us has the book we're all good.
My favorite books are
I am an absolutely voracious reader. I love Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and historical fiction in particular. The Wheel of Time series has a special place in my heart, I place it on a nostalgic pedestal. Though scattered around it are books like Powder Mage, LOTR, Guns of Dawn, and many more. Its hard to pick.
My favorite system of all Time is
Genesys/FFG Star Wars Edge of Empire and its subsequent releases. I've been a Star Wars nerd since ever since I can remember. I love this system, and the narrative dynamics of it's dice. When done properly it makes telling star wars stories not only easy, but extremely fun.
How Chris Werner runs games
My style of GM'ing differs depending on the game, though it always comes back down to seeking out the best story possible. Whether that story is in roleplay or in what plays out during more tactical combats. I am a massive believer in the cooperative aspect of TTRPG's. What I mean by this is I love the back and forth between player and GM. The ability to create and craft stories together while interacting with, or even shaping the world together as we play. I like to craft the games with and for my players. Starting off an even balance between roleplay and combat while getting a feel for what the players prefer. As we go on, the game changes and adapts to the style that everyone enjoys most. This of course changes game to game. Call of Cthulu after all is going to be far more about the depth of mystery and horror than something like Goblin Quest! Overall, my style is focused on creating the best cooperative story possible. I love taking information from players and utilising it in a wider scope to create a depth of character, events, and even combats.

My games focus on...
Collaborative storytelling. Whether through roleplay or an insane combat, I love the story and lore players and GMs build together. I want backstories to be involved in current stories. I want PCs to form bonds with other PCs and NPCs. I always want to achieve the best possible story.
Rules are...
Important, but flexible. We use a system particularly because we like the rules of that system, but that doesn't mean everything in it is perfect. The most important thing in TTRPG is that the group gets to have fun. If a rule stops that, it should be discussed and maybe bent or removed.
Chris Werner's ideal table
I've said it once, and I'll say it again; Collaboration. I want my tables to come together and enjoy themselves. We're here to have fun and play games while engaging with a whole different world and kinds of people than we're used to. To me core of that is engaging with the system and the other players/GM. Give me backstory and I'll use it in the world we play in. Give me ideas for where you want your character to go and together we'll craft a way to make it happen(If the dice let it!). I want people to immerse themselves in whatever world we're playing in. That also means that sometimes vibes shift depending on the game we're playing. For instance, if the game is Call of Cthulu or another Horror I might ask players to make less(There's always gonna be some) jokes, simply to keep in theme of what is going on. I've found through playing games that most problems can be stopped by one simple rule at my table; "Don't be an asshole". Everyone is here to have a good time, and I'll do everything I can to facilitate that.

I am for a vibe that's...
Easy going, but interested in the game. We're all here to have fun, and I want to make sure everyone stays engaged. Sometimes that means cracking jokes at the expense of my NPC's, but sometimes it also means sitting and letting other PCs roleplay a heavy emotional moment and just appreciating.
I love it when a player
Gives me backstory. Ten pages? Yes. One sentence? I can work with it. I as a GM love when a player gives me things to build on. Tragic past with a villain I can throw at you two weeks from now? Amazing. Loving parents that sent you out to chase monsters? Fantastic, lets see if we can't visit.
I think min/maxing...
Is fine, sometimes! Certain games, and certain party compositions just kind of need min/maxing. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, and as long as you follow the golden rule it's absolutely fine to try to make the best character possible.
