About Jay
Longtime player and mod/DM of both tabletop and play-by-post games, looking to create a fun, social, character-centric table with a mix of official material and player-directed questing. I've been RPing for most of life at this point, starting with playing and modding on play-by-post forums, playing and GMing tabletop for about half of that time. I'm a big fan of Planescape (the AD&D setting and Torment), World of Darkness, Gamma World, Dungeon World, Discworld, Super Mario World, Cowboy Bebop, Hellboy, and Sam and Max, and more recently I've gotten hooked on the adventures of the Mighty Nein -- to give you some idea of the flavour of game I'm likely to run. I love long-term subplots that take ages to pan out and tend not to be big on powergaming. If that sounds like a good fit, let me know. If I'm not running the game for you right now, maybe I will be in the future. Cheers!

I became a GM because
once upon a time I saw Tony DiTerlizzi's illustrations for Planescape and Changeling: The Dreaming and just fell in love.
When I'm not running games I'm...
playing CRPGs, out on a drive, or teaching myself little by little how to cook.
How Jay runs games
I'm a big fan of storytelling, building up the ovearching narrative. You don't have to run the most optimized character, you don't have to do voices or speak in character at all times (though if you want to, have at it!), but if you have a character whose story you want to tell and riff on and improv along the way, then that's the kind of table I'm looking to put together. Be kind, be open, be patient with newbies. Be a little weird. We'll have a good time.

I deal with rules issues by...
making the best ruling I can in the moment so we don't spend too much time on lawyering during session, but also being willing to discuss a given rules conflict after and between games.
Rules are...
there to help us all have fun together. Part of that is knowing how to use the rules-as-written to your advantage. The other part is sometimes being able to put those rules aside for the sake of the rule of cool. The important thing is to talk it through so we're all on the same page!
Jay's ideal table
Calm above table, chaotic in-universe. I enjoy intercharacter drama, but it's important that we can all still be friends outside of RP. I like tactical combat with a lot of moving parts but I also love RP-heavy dialogues which can last for hours, and I've run campaigns that were one or the other or both. The thing I personally like best is having the game be largely player-driven, seeing the players take big swings and finding out what happens next.
