About Travis Sluss

I've been a D&D player since the days of 3.5 and returned to the game in 2023 and learned 5e. I've ran many one-shots for D&D, Bunkers and Badasses, and Obojima. I've also been in a Pathfinder 2e game campaign for nearly two years now. I started GM-ing as a volunteer at a local game store and loved doing it so much that I applied to become a professional GM with them and after an audition they hired me on. I started my professional GM career in 2025 and can't wait to broaden my horizons. I'm currently running an ongoing Dragonlance 5e campaign, paid one-shots, community volunteer one-shots, and an Obojima campaign for my friends and family. I own a license for Foundry VTT and host my own server. I have a considerable library of content on D&D Beyond and have been recently running games on their Maps VTT. I've been a Discord user since it's first year in service and have hosted and participated in live and play via post games. I'd also be willing to learn to use another platforms (i.e. Roll20, Mirrorscape, Owlbear Rodeo) if necessary. I'm eager to branch out on my professional GM career and hope that I can bring joy to your table.

I got started GMing...

I started a monthly game subscription with a local game store. Later my son and I went to an event at the store to paint minis. One of the managers and I had been getting to know each other for a while and she asked me if I wanted to run a one-shot for Bunkers and Badasses and from then continued.

My favorite books are

Dungeon Crawler Carl

When I'm not running games I'm...

Spending time with my family, play video games, prepping for an upcoming session, reading new TTRPG material, or simply reading a book.

How Travis Sluss runs games

One of the first things I like to do at my table after introductions is find out what is off limits to ensure everyone is comfortable. Once that's been established I like to adapt to my table. If the players want something light hearted or silly then that's how we play. If the players want something a little darker with a serious undertone then that's the vibe I'll provide. I like to run published adventures but take creative license as needed for the needs and wants of the campaign and the players. I enjoy roll playing and allowing the players to connect with their characters.

I prep by

I read through all of the material once. I then go back through it and write down notes in a journal to help me remember the details to flush out the session(s). If I'm running a VTT I will make sure I have the proper map and any special effects or setup done before the session.

Rules are...

The rules are there to provide a general framework from which we base our games upon. Some people like to follow them to the letter and that's cool if that's the kind of table you've got. I prefer to let the game go where it wants to go organically and rely on the rules when a situation arises.

When it comes to voices

I suck at them but that doesn't stop me from trying.

Travis Sluss's ideal table

My ideal table is one where the players feel comfortable enough to relax and play the game that the table wants to play. I enjoy cracking jokes, dramatic pauses, and trying to get into character. My goal is to entertain be it making them laugh, grow tense, or even cry if the situation deems it plausible. At the end of it all, I simply want my table to have fun.

Featured Prompts

I love it when a player

Warms up to everyone enough to let their character shine through.

I think min/maxing...

is fine for players who are into that style of gameplay and do not expect the same from all the other players or make demands of it on the GM.

My table is not the place for...

Bullying, harassment, condescension, bigotry, discrimination, PvP, or any other behavior that would ruin the enjoyment of the experience for the table.
